Wow Bruce, looks terrific. I'm really glad you bought Chucks large blocks, it makes all the difference in the world. That was one of the best decisions I made on building my Morgan. The remaining blocks should be replaced as well, again the details. Great looking model, glad I could help. MS told me they didn't need anything since they had an instruction Manual. John

Hi Mike, yep our power was out until Thursday - almost lost the freezer. On the 19th got 8" of water in the garage. You know we've had a hail storm, a flood and a tornado in the last 6 weeks. We might want to consider a different location to live....lol. Good ole' Texas Gulf Coast! John

Hello Bruce, just getting caught up on your log. I wasn't aware that you were back working on her again. Somehow I didn't get any notices that I usually get. Your Morgan is really shaping up. I'm glad you could benefit from my mistakes shown on my website. I agree that the Proxxon Drill Press w/xy table is invaluable. Wait till you start making sheaves in the spars. Keep it up my friend, looking good. John

Mike, Harbor Freight in Humble would probably have a fan and their shipping is cheap and fast so you could probably have it in a couple of days as well as not having to drive the 50 miles to go get it. John

Hi Mike, looking very good and making nice progress. Boy, you were right about yesterday...what a perfect day. I spent my time cleaning up my collector cars - took a nice ride up and down 1097 with the targa off...it was a great day. John

Hi Dave, just saw your post and catching up again. Not sure what or if is next. If we full time the RV then I probably won't be building anything else. Always good to yours the detail is off the charts. Not sure which way we're going yet, we still have some dentistry to finish up in Mexico next month. Take care and keep up the good work in the shipyard. John

Sometime you might consider a wallpaper trough for soaking planks, the wetter they are and with a little heat, they'll shape right up.

Sounds like you're right on track....no hurry just make sure each is how you feel like it's good, then move on. Then you'll need to sand it to your liking and move on. Keep it up my friend. John

Tools and Supplies for My "Shipyard"
texxn5 replied to daveward's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hi Dave, Yes, fellow Texan, good to hear. I'm on Lake Conroe north of Houston. First wife was from Milwaukee. Usually it's the folks from Wis coming here for work, not the other way around....lol. I liked Wis, hope all works good for you. John -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
