This is the only Aurora kit that I have ever built. It was a nice kit. There was very little flash and I didn’t have to do too much to make everything fit. There was only minimal filling and sanding to close gaps.

One muddy tank: I’m calling it done! A quick and easy project.

One base coated tank: I’m waiting on the glue to dry to mud it up and then it will go in a case

I’m trying to go for the South Pacific paint scheme, which seemed to be based around a lighter green.

I got an old Aurora Japanese Type 97 Medium Tank in 1:48 scale yesterday. I have never built an Aurora kit, or a Japanese tank, so.... I assembled it. The base coat is almost done, over a black primer coat.

Ab Hoving pointed out in his card model tutorial that model rudders don't have to move. I took his suggestion and made the strapping out of painted card for the rudder on my Prince de Neufchatel and pinned it to the hull. It is good and secure, plus looks nice.

Same for me. That’s also why I don’t typically do commission builds. Model building is supposed to be fun. I burn out very quickly when I have to build.

Yes, that’s the unfortunate part. I was looking at Taubman’s a while back. They have a plan set for the Langley. I thought about doing a POB scratch build of it. It is on my eventual to-build list. I’ve wanted one ever since I saw the model at the NAS Pensacola Museum. That would be an awesome build!

Good Saturday evening! All square sails are done! I just have the fore staysail and three jib sails to go! I put a 12 inch (30 cm) ruler in for scale.

Copper tape gets a nice patina on its own after a couple of months. Mine patina’d even under the sealant I put on it.

Would filling the bottom with lead weights for ballast help? The other thought is that since you can’t see below the waterline, what about using a keel plate hung below the model?

Rob, The sails look awesome. Glue is definitely a good option, especially with paper sails. I’m going to have to remember that for my Victory when I make that set of sails.

It’s a mass produced decorator model. I cleaned it the best I could for him, at work. I wasn’t sure about what to try and use on the sails.

A buddy of mine has an old ship model that belonged to his Dad, and the sails have nicotine stains. What’s the best way to remove the nicotine without destroying the sails on the model?
