Although new and on my first build (polaris) I have HMS Terror as my next build ready to go. It seems a popular ship and seeing Keith S and Clearways incredible improvements to the kit, i would love to build the Erebus also to sit alongside.

They were the fated Franklin pair and the subject of many books, museum exhibits and documentarys , we also have the wrecks of both ships discovered. Im wondering if any other members on here feel thd same and if so could we let Occre know and push for a kit?

The inboard profiles, deck plans and cross-section are shared between the Erebus and the Terror (post-refit for scientific exploration) according to the Royal Museum at Greenwich plans (low res) on Wikimedia Commons.

This means that the two ships were identical (at least in the hull) after the refit for scientific exploration.

Based on this, if you wanted both ships, I would buy two Terrors and make minor modifications to one to build up as the Erebus.

I am doing a similar thing with my Solferino and Magenta builds.

My Magenta build is being built from French Ministry of Defense Solferino plans, because they are mostly identical.

  2. Sorry to hear about your house.  That’s awful.

Corrugated cardboard works great for bulkheads and keel plates.

    Thickness varies.

I use Elmers glue sticks to build up card thickness and Monte Marte glue for the actual gluing.

Poster board is about .5 to .7mm thick.

Most cereal boxes are about .5mm thick.

    Welcome to the Dark Side!

I’ve had enough fun with card ships that I am now on my third and fourth card ships.

  3. These are the six that I’m making right now:251AC432-FB70-4590-A844-2B3D2AE9B901.jpeg.f051b9e7c0aeedc30aedb2fff04b7825.jpegCCD4B03C-9243-4FD5-8B1D-2F85D7F2872F.jpeg.d774031fb782ffd541d79c34454ae558.jpeg09C9D3BA-FF78-4FF6-822D-8DFDB770EAEF.jpeg.fdd805752de0cf1b31f582764b1f78d1.jpeg6DF2482C-C57A-4B45-9DC7-A6DE08083DB7.jpeg.02423c6b980adc67ff02243177c79390.jpeg

Given that they’re hanging from boat davits, I should probably make some eyebolts, too.

I need a couple hundred of them anyway, between this project and the Mercury.

Although, it looks like the ones in the single davits are strapped in.  So, those won’t need the eyebolts.

Actually, they probably should have eyebolts for consistency.

You aren’t going to tell me that they stashed the ship’s boats in the same davit, every time.

Plus, you still have to fish said boat out of the water, which means eyebolts.

  4. Working on the next 6 boats, which hang off the quarterdeck.

On a quick personal note, I went through my stash last night and counted up/examined the plan sets (including those found in reference books, which is where I developed my Prince de Neufchatel and Hannah models from) and kits (ship and non-ship) that I have.

I have a lot of models that need built.

I also have several hundred miniatures that need painted (28mm, 30mm and 54mm, mostly).

Lol, it will keep me busy for a very long time.
