Bob, Superb builds, I love the way they turned out to be. I'll get at least one on my wish list for future builds, and have your build log a s a valuable reference

If it is a matter of stability ... you could display her upside down ... not a nice alternative, unless she's fitted to the ceiling

Nice forest, Nils. They do attract attention, that is certain, but it is good contrast with the other details. Besides, you can't leave them off. Your build wouldn't be up to date

Yes, treat her like an Admiral Pat. That'll be the day ... Might get into some trouble though ... Considering the quantity of brass I put on her, it is a nice stash for someones gold stock ...

Those tubs were fitted in 1945, on one of the front turrets and the rear turret. They do give something extra, that's what I can't add on the Musashi. Love the detail you added with the paint, Greg. Wonderful work on that.

This is what I could find: on a good day the turret recieved information from the director on the foretop. This used radar to get precise range information and had a stereoscopic system as backup. If the turret stopped receiving information from the fire control computer the turret would switch to local control. This was entirely stereoscopic, and thats why there are "wings" on the back part of the turret, this houses the lenses for the rangefinder within the turret.

You wanted to build something, right. Now you've got a challenge to do some more building, and at no additional expense! Else you might as well have bought a Jigsaw Puzzle ... hmmm not a bad thought, for my next "build"

Components of the covered AA gun, and replacement parts Some careful treading on the funnel. Had a hard time getting those brass thready thingies on ... Before with some more bling bling on the forward tower, and two additional gun directors (they had some gun directors and rangefinders installed on these ships!!) and after

Well, the carriage is ready. Now all that's left is the gun, the mast, oars, and some other small war like utensils That is a very beautiful boat, Chris

Looks like you got the funnels covered. Two more to add, a few lines, and a dash of paint ... She starts to look like a ship which can propel itself forward !

Very nice work, Igor. Since I started working with PE at 1/350 I now know what you are going through with for example the railing. You are even having more chance to damage items on your build as mine is at a far larger scale. Well done my friend!!

Thanks Piet, I got nearly bitten when I grabbed for one Never got a camera with a kit, plastic or wood, OC. I must be doing something wrong ... I wonder what name I'll have next week ...

The hull looks very good now. Wouldn't have expected sienna to do that, but I should have known colourwise. Yes, those turrets aren't for pussies;) They stretch the whole breadth of my hand. Did you use a larger nozzle on he airbrush for the primer? Can' wait to set mine up. I'll be having enough to do when I can start priming. The box with parts to prime starts to fill up

Nice lighting, Kees. Now al that is missing are the sounds of the sea, seaguls etc, and we are ready to cast a net.

Sam, That's no excuse, it's a fact of life. I know older people with a better memory!! Missing a bank in your memory slots;) Mine has deteriorated, probably a virus, or touched by liquid My current set contains a broken Nikon S3600 (let it drop on it's lens), a Canon 400D, and recently a 5d MkII (coincidence?) I'm still exploring with. My background is B&W photography, and manipulation of iso, e.g. shoot a 1600 ISO at 100 and adjust development time. I must say that DSRL's make the waiste of film history, but I find the B&W properties limited, I can't get what I want (I do not like to manipulate images with software). If I have to do that I feel like a desktop publisher. It seems, however, I have to make the step to get what I want. So be it (very reluctantly) Cheers

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
