  1. Piet, Huzza for the good tidings, I'll grab a tot to your health! Concerning the carving ... How was the original treated ... stained: Stain it; painted: Paint it. When I look at what you have accomplished at small scale, even by your unbreakable perseverance, I wouldn't worry overtly. You'll get it right ... I know it Cheers
  2. You'll certainly be right, however, I cannot see a grapnel as a reliable anchor considering the grapnel's weight, and minimal flukes which must hold the boat's weight and strain of a tugging sea ... the use for 'displacement' seems to me the more obvious one, or the mooring to another ship in harbour for that matter. At least the 'abuse' of the hawse holes has been determined ... Cheers Carl
  3. Igor, You should take care not to crush your build with such a hughe matchstick!!! One sail an evening ... better then none!!! looks pretty darn good ... can't wai for the remaining sails Cheers
  4. Fam, They do come in handy with this hobby those skilled friends with lathes ... He did a magnificent job on the carronade, as the French say: Chapeau!! Curious as to the casting result ... I'l be waiting with anticipation ... Cheers
  5. I wouldn't expect a grapnel for manouvring, sooner a cable of some sort, as the grapnel and chain would appear rather heavy to me ... It does invite some deeper scrutiny ... and these queries do make the build quite a challenge!! I've been surprised by your, and Steven's enginuity ... Cheers
  6. You know, Mobbsie, the only break Popeye has is his admiral ... so you need to be carefull what you jot down for him ... although, it's so great when one triggers his imagination and creativity ... surprise after surprise ... so please don't stop Popeye, I would go for a garden gate-ish thing instead of the planking job ... makes it ligher - for the eye too ....the flat top does look more like it belongs ... love the development Cheers
  7. And to which top part are you refering ... must be missing something here, or my magnifying glass is damaged Cheers
  8. Jason, Some very nice crisp work! The grain depends on the origin of the wood. Europe, US, ... still, she does look stunning ... Cheers
  9. You mean you've got to find a bigger match to keep it at scale ... ;-) Superb job Igor, never mind the scale!!! Cheers
  10. Quite so, Mick ... some home 'improvement' ... hope to get to the real work again sometime soon Cheers
  11. Dick, Just to get some things clear ... the anchor is attached to the hull with a chain - fixed length - and is dropped with a 'cable' so it can be hauled up again ...
  12. Hmmm, you don't say ... Piet ... your first attempt at carving ... you're pullin' me legg roaght ... (I'll believe you when Gwenn confirms that!!!) Wonderful job, and very fine and crisp lines so far. I wish you a steady hand and patience ... Cheers
  13. Better slow, and steady, Mick, than fast, and furious at yourself afterwards. Looking forward to that gentle sweep a yours. So far I'm enjoying the ride!!! Cheers
  14. Though a steep angle on the roof is good to get rid of snow when it gets to heavy, it looks disproportionate on your boat. Here in Holland, we have floating homes, and as far as I can remember those have flat roofs, or hardly any angle to it at all ... hmmm, maybe slanting backwards only ... trial an' error probably ... Cheers
  15. Got one waiting on the bookcase in my study on top of the ARNO XI, so don't mind if I pull p a chair to get some pointers from the master. So far ... looking good, Mobbsie Cheers
  16. Hmmm, couldn't you heat it up and hammer it down (carefully ...) ever so slightly ... it's not that brittle it will break on a hammer's impact will it ... Looking good ... very good Cheers
  17. Pfff, had to catch up ... felt like running after a freight train at full speed ... my your creativity is making overtime ... fabulous ideas, and realistaion of them ... glad you took wooden shingles, and not ceramic tiles ... those might be a tad heavy Cheers
  18. Marvelous build, Grant, wouldn't have missed it for the world, especially with your co-builder so we could see the different approaches/solutions you both displayed Cheers
  19. You have a nice collection at present, any further small build plans. They do look marvelous ... and it seems so easy when you do it!!!
  20. Mark, That line of JFK ... you hit the proverbial nail on it's head ... it wouldn't be worth it's while if it weren't hard would it now ... That liquid glass turned out rather nice ... I might say it may even be a better choice than your initial mica ... besides, you're not going to have an open fire in the cabin ... would you ...? Just one question: Why didn't you trim that lower mold before ... Cheers,
  21. Siggi, Stunning ... A truely magnificent build, and a superb display. I do love the illumination, although, at first, I had my reservations about it. Worth a standing ovation!!!
