Piet, Huzza for the good tidings, I'll grab a tot to your health! Concerning the carving ... How was the original treated ... stained: Stain it; painted: Paint it. When I look at what you have accomplished at small scale, even by your unbreakable perseverance, I wouldn't worry overtly. You'll get it right ... I know it Cheers

You'll certainly be right, however, I cannot see a grapnel as a reliable anchor considering the grapnel's weight, and minimal flukes which must hold the boat's weight and strain of a tugging sea ... the use for 'displacement' seems to me the more obvious one, or the mooring to another ship in harbour for that matter. At least the 'abuse' of the hawse holes has been determined ... Cheers Carl

Igor, You should take care not to crush your build with such a hughe matchstick!!! One sail an evening ... better then none!!! looks pretty darn good ... can't wai for the remaining sails Cheers

You know, Mobbsie, the only break Popeye has is his admiral ... so you need to be carefull what you jot down for him ... although, it's so great when one triggers his imagination and creativity ... surprise after surprise ... so please don't stop Popeye, I would go for a garden gate-ish thing instead of the planking job ... makes it ligher - for the eye too ....the flat top does look more like it belongs ... love the development Cheers

You mean you've got to find a bigger match to keep it at scale ... ;-) Superb job Igor, never mind the scale!!! Cheers

Better slow, and steady, Mick, than fast, and furious at yourself afterwards. Looking forward to that gentle sweep a yours. So far I'm enjoying the ride!!! Cheers

Though a steep angle on the roof is good to get rid of snow when it gets to heavy, it looks disproportionate on your boat. Here in Holland, we have floating homes, and as far as I can remember those have flat roofs, or hardly any angle to it at all ... hmmm, maybe slanting backwards only ... trial an' error probably ... Cheers

Got one waiting on the bookcase in my study on top of the ARNO XI, so don't mind if I pull p a chair to get some pointers from the master. So far ... looking good, Mobbsie Cheers

Marvelous build, Grant, wouldn't have missed it for the world, especially with your co-builder so we could see the different approaches/solutions you both displayed Cheers

Mark, That line of JFK ... you hit the proverbial nail on it's head ... it wouldn't be worth it's while if it weren't hard would it now ... That liquid glass turned out rather nice ... I might say it may even be a better choice than your initial mica ... besides, you're not going to have an open fire in the cabin ... would you ...? Just one question: Why didn't you trim that lower mold before ... Cheers,

Siggi, Stunning ... A truely magnificent build, and a superb display. I do love the illumination, although, at first, I had my reservations about it. Worth a standing ovation!!!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
