Whow, I didn't realize how the last year flew by. I actually wanted to start with my model much earlier, but due to the Corona crisis and a project change, I gave up my second home in Amsterdam and moved back home. I now have to use my shipyard as my home office, so scratch building isn't really a good option. At Christmas I found the offer of ir3 at MSW and considered using the small lasercut kits from Chuck to pursue my hobby. In the meantime, the decision has been made and I am waiting for a package with the components. After Chuck reopens his store I need to buy some yellow ceddar and then I will start my build. I dream to fully rig WInchelsea later. Frigates are in my opinion some of the most beautyful shipmodels with a rig.

Good morning Chuck, I found in W.E.May "The boats of the Men of War" that there were two different options for a fith rate with 32 guns: 1761: 3 boats - 23ft longboat, 30ft pinnace and a 24ft yawl 1781: 5 boats - 23ft/ 24 ft launch, 30ft pinnace, 2x 18ft cutters I think it should be nice to show all boats with the ship.

Hi Tony, a really wonderful buildlog and a beautyful model. It was a pleasure to read through your log. The fashion piece is really tricky. It took me also a litttle time and some hints from druxey, until I understand how it works.
-
I will take a seat and follow your log with great interest.

I understand what you mean. That's also the reason, why I didn't start building the Oseberg or one of the other bigger viking ships. The stopped Skuldelev III was a not so nice experience. But I love this kind of klinker build ships. But before I go back, I will finish my HMS Triton; but this project needs some more years to complete.

Thanks for sharing the photos. The decorations are really nice. The lion looks special on the drawing. At the first looking I thought, it's a horse.

Do you want to build the keel from different layers? The only point for me to use a layer is the really complex design of the stemdecoration. If you have a colser look to the original stem you can see that it is very thin at front. I hope that you need to much time, to start your build log. I am very interested so see, how you proceed.

Congratulations, just a beautyful model.

That's a nice idea. I am also building the cog "Wütender Hund". But if someone needs some picture of the Kamper Kogge, I made some pictures during a small trip in my holidays.

Chris, I am not shure if I understand your problem right. I had saturday the opportunity to make a short trip with the replica "Kamper Kogge" and that is what the shrouds are looking on the real ship. So don't worry if they are not really parallel.😉

This looks so beautyful, Kris. Please check the position of the frame. If it is the position of the middel frame near by the mast, it has a slightly different design. Before drawing the frames I would add the clamps on the planks to bind the frames. Than I woud add the mastspoor. The frames are not sitting perpendicular to the keel. I could not see, if you remember this small detail. I don't know if you answered the question: which software do you use for the drawings?
-
@KrisWood Yes that's exactly what I mean. I've stopped my project, because the bulkheads didn't work for me.

I would buil the jig much higher, that you can build the complete keel and stem for putting it on the jig. Perhaps a design as for a paper model with a horizontal board is a good idea. This is a picture of my jig I tried to build the Skuldelev ship III. My biggest mistake, was to use a stepped design for the jig. It's much easier to mark the position of every plank, than you dont't have truble with the small inaccuracies during the build.

Chris, congratulations for reaching this milestone. I started yesterday with page one of the instructionbook. This anchor is looking really modern. Did you some research? If I am back at home I can check if I find something in my books.

Really nice progress Chris. What glue do you use ? In the instruction manual Shipyard shows a contact glue (Pattex) and I was really surprised to see this. I am thinking to use Titebond woodglue. If the the weather is so worse as expected, I will start the build of my model today.
