  1. Yes, the Tug Ulises. They actually told you to drive in the nails then sand the heads off and you would be done.
  2. David, I'm a little concerned about the nails in the planking. I've seen this before in OcCre kits (specifically my Ulises Tug) and frankly I didn't know how to handle it. I believe the instructions tell you to complete the hull, with the nails, and then sand the heads off the nails and make the hull smooth. I couldn't envision how this might be possible so I went with just a standard hull planking technique using glue to hold the planks in place. It came out fine. Believe me, I'm not trying to corrupt your adherence to the instructions. But, since you're dealing with a single planked hull, you might want to think about it now. Don't be afraid to ignore my concern.
  3. Simply beautiful work. She really stands out in the photo of her on the beams. Should you decide to add some details later like ropes or buckets she'll be right there waiting for you. Your 'eye' will tell you if anything is 'needed'. The holly trim on the thwarts and sternsheets along with the hinges really make her for me by highlighting all the previous work on the boat herself. Outstanding!
  4. Nope......not me. Not going to say a word about spherical proliferation
  5. Nice catch here Larry. That gun port gap has all but disappeared . I guess most of us learn early on that you really can't spend too much time on fairing. I realize now that my 'hey, that looks pretty good', assessment of my own fairing resulted in an awful lot of 'fine tuning' midway through the planking process but at least not a major rework. Here's to us both nailing it next time around
  6. Wish I could provide a magic bullet for you Harley but as I recall it was just sandpaper and patience. If you have a Dremel tool you might do some of the early rough work with a small sanding drum or a flap wheel but the bulk of it is basically fingertip stuff. Probably a good idea to do a little at a time and take a few breaks.
  7. On the wolves (just to screw up YOUR thread), you had better start putting out something for them to eat. I can't imagine that the Netherlands has enough wild critters available to satisfy wolves! Oh ----- they don't like popcorn unless you pour some nice bacon grease over it And I do have some freshly caught fish I can send over !
  8. Very, very nice. By the way, 25 years ago my HMS Victory cross section came with all one color, light tan line for both running and standing rigging. I used it and am happy to report that is has darkened uniformly and looks very nice as of this day. Of course yours is of a much higher calibre installation and is just going to look great. Carry on, Mate.
  9. Guns look great Sjors , nicely centered. Don't tell everyone you're lazy just because you only intend to rig the breech ropes ---- that's what I did
  10. Yes, I know how prohibitive international shipping can be having lived in Europe for several years. Try to get rigging line you're happy with though as it really shows up. I see Chuck Passaro is putting together his own now and I'm sure it's top notch. Then there's always Morope. Neither is cheap. Actually, ME has some reasonable line that isn't bad.....they call it Manila Hemp twist but it's really just a synthetic. Whatever you do, if you order some, order ENOUGH! You don't want to come up a meter short at the end.
  11. Opposed thumbs. Actually, I have large, clumsy hands. But I have become pretty good working with 2 pair of forceps. Just call me Augie Tweezerhands.
  12. Thanks Frank. I needed your approval to go fishing so I worked my butt off from 4AM-noon And thanks to everyone who is following along! RV- yup, the case is 'in house'. Just gotta build it and get some glass cut. No, I suck as a carpenter so it's one from ME. Pretty nice.
  13. Thanks John and Sherry. On the rigging spiders, I got my first breeding pair from Jim Lad 'Down Under'. I think he's still sole supplier.
  14. Hey, it's good to keep on learnin'. That's one nice aspect of shipbuilding. Yes, you learn a lot on aircraft construction as well but as you get older your flying ability starts to go to pot .... and that takes away from the enjoyment (at least for me).
  15. Well, Frank, as luck would have it you won't need to wait long (I usually make Sjors wait about a week). The spritsail and running rigging has been COMPLETED !!! Just a few flag halliards and rope coils to finish up. So I've given my loyal and trusty rigging spiders (at least) the next year off for good behavior. Then we need to fabricate the anchors and associated tackle. I'm going to try and make my own anchor stocks rather than use the castings so this could take another month . The yard is closed for the next several days ----- yeah......fishin'. Y'all take care !
