  1. Nice job on the stand! The furniture looks good....that stove IS fun to build. Wheel could be a tad thinner but it's a matter of how you feel about it.
  2. I share your pain in covering up the gun deck. My Confederacy is similar and Chuck's design calls for leaving off (completely) sections of the quarter and fore decks. I know Sam's Essex design (MS) does pretty much the same thing. They each have full deck beams however. Be interested to see what you come up with.
  3. Looking good, Ron. All this prep work will pay off handsomely as you hang the yards.
  4. I wasn't going to post this photo of the QD main rail but it keeps 'calling' me. Note the simulated sheaves in the lower stanchions. The lower rail is doubled to produce a nice beaded effect whereas the upper is a single so as not to make it too massive. I left it in natural finish (rather than the suggested black) as I'm going with black for all the belaying pins and, against the swiss pear deck, we see a nice contrast. Onward to the long forgotten bow!
  5. She's looking good so far, Ken. I've struggled as well on that 'compound bend' up into the transom. I'm assuming your fairing is fine so as not to get too severe an angle. I normally just soak the plank well, temporarily fasten it in place until it dries and then do the final fit. You'll nail it, I'm sure.
  6. Probably down around #10 buckshot. Great idea if you can find them and don't need to buy them by the pound!
  7. Laying that first wale may have been 'straightforward' (for you) but it gives us a great mind's eye view of what she'll look like. Beautifully neat, mate.
  8. Great to see these. Never imagined there would be so much rigging on a steamer. Appreciate you pointing out all these details.
  9. Has taken about 6 weeks to enjoy our vacation and then address some domestic and minor health issues. But I've finally gotten the shipyard up and running once again. Decided to finish up the guns on the QD. There are only four 4 pounders due to the layout of the open decking. Once again, the brass cannon were supplied by Chuck's Syren company and they're a perfect fit for the kit-supplied carraiges. No need to detail the construction process again. I need to finish up one railing on the QD before I move to the bow planking. Will be operating on a reduced 'summer schedule' for a time......but it feels great to be back 'home'. Here's hoping the summer has been going well for all those here up North. It's been fun following everyone's progress.
  10. Nice work all around. Yup --- everything is connected and dependent on prior work. Pays to keep your mind way ahead of what you're currently doing.
  11. Don't know if it would help, Popeye, but I've had success removing scratches from acetate type windows using very fine (1500 or 3000) grit sandpaper, wet. Not easy to find.
  12. I'm no expert on this design but need to say that you've made her much more pleasing to the eye. I'll defer to cog's comment.
  13. Should be getting the shipyard up and running in a week or so Eric. Thanks for dropping in.
