looks like a really neat project gun carriages shaping up to look really cool. I'll pull up a chair as well -
speaking of an update........ I was racking my head, trying to come up with a unique helm room for this boat. I wanted to give it the same shape as the lower structure, but in my head, it just didn't look right. so I went a little taller....2 3/4, as opposed to the 2 1/4 I did with the lower structure, and I traced out the windows. it was cemented together, making sure it was square. then the front parts were cut and traced out for windows as well. seeing the way the grain was running, I knew I was going to have problems........and I did. the window frames broke a couple of times.....and I fixed them, not wanting to waste the wood, or make new parts. it was even a bigger hassle trying to cement the front walls to the rest of the helm room. but I did it. positioned on the deck, I ran a few thoughts through my head. now that I have the structures assembled, I can trace them out on the decks and set into motion, the idea that's been bouncing around in my mind. I really should get some cap rails on there too. the inner bulwarks and the bottom paint is going to be the red primer.......the rest of the scheme is soon to follow. it will look better, once I smooth out the rough spots and get some paint on it.

howdy and welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself........lots of really fine folk here thanks for the likes.......I appreciate that folks like what I do.....even if it's a bit crazy and insane but I enjoy it, and that's what counts with this hobby. you will have to be quick though......I tend to jump around from build to build, doing things as I think of them....or a half baked idea comes to mind thanks for the good word welcome aboard!

ahhh, the nature of a POF.........I remember it well yours has a lot more pieces per frame than mine did though. coming along nicely.

the wood etch is included in the kit. Cornwall Boats has it in brass photo etch, as well as the wood etch. I'll order it and see what I can do with it......I've never worked with photo etch before. I've got a few projects that I want to clear up before I open that box {although......I've been gazing in there from time to time}. I'm trying to find some decent pictures of the deck.........with the smaller scale, some things don't seem right or may have been looked over by the manufacturer. nice job on the yards the bracket for the boom looks good.........many different ships have them. looking around the site, you'll see the different techniques other have used to make them. I did them for my first build of the Revell Cutty Sark 1:96.....as well as my first build of the United States. the added sails really widen them out! super job!

looks good KP....the deck is filling out nicely. also appears that you've fixed the bow spirit in good shape........was it an easy fix?

hello Richard.........wonderful build you have going. I read right........first wood build?!?!? you've picked quite a scale to cut your teeth on.......but you'll get to experience everything, and by the looks of it, your doing Ok. I recently received this kit {over the holidays}. I'm going to get the photo etch for it and get some research time in before I begin. I'll look forward in seeing more of your progress

beautiful build you have so far........you and your crew have done a wonderful job. I have this same kit.......a present from the admiral. I haven't started it yet....just gathering information at the moment. I notice that you don't have the photo etch.........I found it, and will be ordering it since my kit doesn't have it either. I agree with some who have commented......the scale is going to be very challenging. good choice of color.....I'm not lov'in the kit color either too bad about the pictures, I wish I could see more. usually, I do Billing kits, and I've come to understand the instructions. this kit looks like they pewked on the sheet! the stuns'l booms are arranged that way........but I have seen them in other angles as well. the lower booms are most likely in their 'stowed state', since they are not being used. in use, they are positioned directly in front of the mast, and out farther. I have done a few models with them, and they really add width to the model. look really sweet too! I'll look forward in seeing more of your build.......not too much more to go, at the rate you've been building her

thanks Patrick, Nenad, and Carl ....and all who hit the like button. I have been out all morning running errands......now I'm back I do have an idea for the deck, but I want to keep the work boat appeal. I also have a backup plan...and this is something I've never tried. I think it will look neat I still have to make the helm room.......sorry to say I was lazy yesterday. I get something going I could do interior stairs....but I don't think they'd be seen once the roof is on the helm room. I'll do some external stairs and add to the detail

the space your referring to Mark is needed for rudder movement.........maybe it's just me, but I think you've done better by this one. it got the wrinkling, and the fold around the end to give the impression that it's attached to the rudder further into the fold. I wouldn't change it.

well....I'm not REALLY going to make you wait....just until my work week is done. actually, I did a little of this Saturday evening, when I got home. >thanks Greg< I'm still thinking of how I want to shape the helm room. since I didn't give the hull much of fore deck, I'm going to make some extra space for it to sit on. off the bulkhead, I made the main deck structure. once I had it assembled........I had to slap myself, because I didn't factor in the added section of decking {roof}. after making the adjustments to the height, it was set in place on the deck. later, I drew a center line on the aft wall. I wasn't off too badly the way I had positioned it. the section of deck/roof was added to the structure, giving it rounded corners and 1/8 overhang on both sides.....3/16 for the aft over hang. I also added a border along both sides of the fore deck, to complete where the fenders left off. I'm going to sand them down a little bit more .....they are 1/16....I am out of 1/32 square stock. I did a little bit with a paint brush........touching up the areas that were missed by the primer. the structure was painted primer red, as well as the border pieces so now that the work week is over, I can work on the helm room

really coming along nicely.........the pillars are looking really good now! they connect the decks together much better the detail your adding is really super. I don't think you need to worry about the messy decks {sawdust}.....we know that when it comes time for her maiden voyage, she'll be spiffed up to the nine fantastic work Patrick

when you see the next update.......you can get a sense of the direction this hull is going. one more work day.......and I should be able to put the helm portion of the update together

good to see your attempt at making the rudder coat........sad to see that your not happy with it. I agree that it's not an easy aspect to add given the scale. I like what you've done.......I only took one stab with the one I did for the Gothenborg.....and I painted it with flat enamel. fingers crossed that you'll get better results, should you choose to redo
