  1. I had great luck with painting 4 x 4 x .5 mm tiles I made. much better in your case, with just black and white.........think of the dance floor I did in multi colors. believe me Augie.......it's a lot of fun Ebony is a great choice Bill........but take great care in working with it. dust particulates can really cause a lot of problems health wise. there are methods where shoe black can be used to simulate it, if you chose to do so.
  2. the shrouds aren't plastic are they? the Heller kits that I've built in the past, utilizes a jig to make the shrouds from thread. if you plan to do your shrouds in the traditional method, then you did well to fill in the slots........they can wrap around the mast, rather than fit into the slot. it will look much better as well
  3. Ulises does make a good point. there will be times where a separation line might not look too good. as a lot of folks who work with plastic know, sometimes the molds don't give such a square edge on parts. dry fitting and sanding might take out most of it, but corners and deck joints might still suffer. your deck looks very good.....I did not see how this was assembled.......I had to look at it again. cool! it does have the cabin bulkheads is there one for the upright at the bow, or does the fore castle deck hide it?
  4. sorry to hear of turmoil on both fronts.........like the wind, I hope it blows over, or calms down for you
  5. still darn nice work there.........with just a touch of bash it'll get you sooner or later.......so give in...the dark side awaits
  6. I shouldn't even bother to mention it....but in the event you buy it........it's the Testor's putty in a tube. depending how old it is, you need the knead the heck out of the tube to insure that it is mixed well before using. I get it only because I don't use it that often, which is another problem for this type of application. it is a good putty though and sands very easily.
  7. pilot house looks great bob........it fleshed out well. reminds me so much of the Nordkap.....at 1:50 scale, I had so much room to play with it will be neat to watch
  8. I should have posted and pointed out that I 'liked' the updates of your build. there's nothing funny at all about computer woes......that's what a sledgehammer is for sweet looking paint job there piet.......even if it's just the primer.......it'll be cool to see her in color.
  9. how much of a gap is there at the top of the stairs? it looks as though there might be. if there is, you can always put in one more step. looks very good at the bottom hope you had two beers.......
  10. looks very nice Robert. that's what I was talking about.....there is some detail that would be impossible to do at this scale. if a way is found to pull it off....it can add a lot of depth into a model. well done indeed!
  11. hey Andy.......can't lose what I never had........just ask the admiral :D :D :D thanks Dragzz sorry Sjors.......I had my head examined last week..........and the doctor said that I had nothing in there. I got some pretty colored rocks though thanks Mobbsie I'm humbled after reading your comment on your build..........don't think I'm THAT good, but thanks
  12. your paint looks very good..........everything can be done in any number of ways. choose the best method that works for you and go with it. your getting a lot of good advice here.
  13. you have done a superb job with this build Ron........and this is what..........your third build? you've learned so many lessons in such a short period of time.........the work you've done on this build just amazing.
  14. well! thanks to everybody who commented......too many to name! I will mention on the lacquer thing though........first rule: don't put it on too thick. I thin mine down before I paint......for this one though, I'd better use the airbrush. doing it in thin coats, it has time to seep into the wood and create a base for the next coat.......cuts down on the cracking thing {although, in all my years of using it, I have never had it crack on me}. it is the reason why I like it.....it's a hard finish, and less prone to finger prints and minor ding makers. varnish is a soft finish, and with heat and humidity, can become a bit sticky.......but that again, is a byproduct of laying it on too thick. the Gothenborg.......well, all my builds that require it, is done with lacquer. I want to try a urethane, but again, it's a softer finish. a semi gloss will dull down enough to produce a nice finish......if it is too shiny, there is also a dull coat that can be applied over it, to kill it some more...but I haven't had to do that. I have had to use it on some of the Billing's paints I've laid.......you want to talk about shine I don't have too much of a use for gloss paint........not for sailing ships, or war ships. thanks again to you all........yes, it's back to the Gothenborg and continue the rigging. I still have shrouds and ratlines to do !
  15. that's quite an arrangement you have there! Aggie is sure looking spiffy now! you do some beautiful work.....very nice 'n clean
