  1. I should have posted and pointed out that I 'liked' the updates of your build. there's nothing funny at all about computer woes......that's what a sledgehammer is for sweet looking paint job there piet.......even if it's just the primer.......it'll be cool to see her in color.
  2. how much of a gap is there at the top of the stairs? it looks as though there might be. if there is, you can always put in one more step. looks very good at the bottom hope you had two beers.......
  3. looks very nice Robert. that's what I was talking about.....there is some detail that would be impossible to do at this scale. if a way is found to pull it off....it can add a lot of depth into a model. well done indeed!
  4. hey Andy.......can't lose what I never had........just ask the admiral :D :D :D thanks Dragzz sorry Sjors.......I had my head examined last week..........and the doctor said that I had nothing in there. I got some pretty colored rocks though thanks Mobbsie I'm humbled after reading your comment on your build..........don't think I'm THAT good, but thanks
  5. your paint looks very good..........everything can be done in any number of ways. choose the best method that works for you and go with it. your getting a lot of good advice here.
  6. you have done a superb job with this build Ron........and this is what..........your third build? you've learned so many lessons in such a short period of time.........the work you've done on this build just amazing.
  7. it's easy Robbyn...........I build in my mind oops! I just dropped a piece...........wait a sec! :D :D
  8. well! thanks to everybody who commented......too many to name! I will mention on the lacquer thing though........first rule: don't put it on too thick. I thin mine down before I paint......for this one though, I'd better use the airbrush. doing it in thin coats, it has time to seep into the wood and create a base for the next coat.......cuts down on the cracking thing {although, in all my years of using it, I have never had it crack on me}. it is the reason why I like it.....it's a hard finish, and less prone to finger prints and minor ding makers. varnish is a soft finish, and with heat and humidity, can become a bit sticky.......but that again, is a byproduct of laying it on too thick. the Gothenborg.......well, all my builds that require it, is done with lacquer. I want to try a urethane, but again, it's a softer finish. a semi gloss will dull down enough to produce a nice finish......if it is too shiny, there is also a dull coat that can be applied over it, to kill it some more...but I haven't had to do that. I have had to use it on some of the Billing's paints I've laid.......you want to talk about shine I don't have too much of a use for gloss paint........not for sailing ships, or war ships. thanks again to you all........yes, it's back to the Gothenborg and continue the rigging. I still have shrouds and ratlines to do !
  9. that's quite an arrangement you have there! Aggie is sure looking spiffy now! you do some beautiful work.....very nice 'n clean
  10. still some impressive work Daniel.........I didn't notice it
  11. I'm a small town person........love to get back to one someday
  12. I am not used to doing anything during my work week....I'm usually too tired and falling asleep at my computer. this is something I just had to get done. so, I did the railing Saturday evening........ then Sunday evening, I did the pin rack........stained it just before I went to bed. I glued it in place before I went to work this morning. so......now the railings are complete. this step is done. there are some other rails along the hull to go on yet...and some painting. I'll be doing that next. here are some shots of the deck and how it looks now. these two pictures how the railings follow the bulwarks I need to get some semi gloss lacquer for the seal coat......I have some clear gloss, but I think it would be too much shine. I'll be heading back to the Gothenborg to do some more rigging. thanks for your good comments, I really appreciate it very much.
  13. as others have mentioned.......any progress is good progress looking forward for the first planks
  14. congrats Andy........glad to see you at the table. I'll look forward in seeing what that special project is

  16. thanks Dragzz and Patrick......almost to the end of this step.......update soon....I hope
  17. looking very good Kevin.........I do agree that it's too early in the build for any banter. enjoy what your doing.....we'll enjoy what you've done
  18. thanks Piet. just goes to show you, some of the design flaws in kits. I'm not going for an exact replica, but there are folks here, that can help by pointing you in the right direction. thanks for the good word
  19. have fun with your new adventure......you can purchase wire cutters just about anywhere. yes, you can never be too careful with some of the glues out there. look forward in seeing your progress.
  20. I don't know about that.......I was the one who threw those two 'slabs' on there. I'm definitely putting the rest of the build under a microscope. I just thought you'd get a kick out of the *wub* :D
