  1. I'm not asking Santa for tools, wood, or books. I'm asking for time. I want a few more hours each day for building.
  2. Mike, That's excellent news. Were you able to find holly? Steve, Thanks for keeping the first post in this topic updated. I'm sure we all appreciate it.
  3. Daniel, I'm not sure they used boxes for the fish... probably barrels. The bread (ship's biscuit also known by some as hardtack) was bagged.
  4. I agree with Steve. It looks great and at this scale, if someone tries to move there is no telling how much damage they could do.
  5. Daniel, I looks from here that your efforts are well worth the time. Everything is looking super. As for the fish room.... dried fish or salted fish. Not much fresh of anything on these ships.
  6. "Warming room"???? Why do feel that there's a hot tub in this ship's future?
  7. Grant, The only thing I see missing is glue. Put those babies together as they look great. Almost forgot: Welcome to the Club of Over-thinkers. We meet every day and at every hour.
  8. Impeccable machining, Michael. I'm always amazed at what you do in miniature.
  9. An excellent start, Fam. I'm looking forward to seeing more..
  10. Admirals are like that. Maybe you need to move the refrigerator so she won't come into it often?
  11. Nenad is right, Bill. A build log will get you help fast. We do have quite a few plastic and card logs so wood is not the only medium.
  12. Alternatively, you could spot paint. I did that on my Wasa. As far as the hull goes, I just painted the bulwarks and stern (along with seemingly a thousand figures). I've also seen other builds done very effectively using that method.
  13. Hi Carl, Actually I do overthink. Though for the stern I think it's the fear since that's where I crashed and burned the last time. Anyway, pics coming as do the transoms... Thanks, Dave. I've seen your work and I have no doubt you could do a POF and it would be excellent. Hi Lou, The best overview of his building is in the book you already have. The chapters on Alfred pretty much tell you how.
  14. The first one I turned were done with a hand power drill and file. I tried a dremel but too darn fast.
  15. I think Michael is correct... Correction, make that I know he's correct.
  16. Frank, You are a master at weathering. Wonderful work, my friend.
  17. Would anyone notice? You will. Do you a lathe? Or a drill press? Simple shell gun.. take and existing barrel , full size, the 32 pdr is 6", same as the shell gun. Chuck up the gun and grind/file away on the spinning barrel. I'm attaching a photo of what I made originally for my Constellation using the guns from the kit. I later, redid them using the lathe as they were not large enough in diameter. It seems the Pauxhains and Parotts are quite a bit bigger than a 32 pdr. For your purposes, the Pauxhain style would probably be suitable.
  18. Oak would almost need heat involved to bend it. Electric plank bender or curling iron. That stuff is tough.
  19. Frolich's book is a treasure trove of info for building French ships. And it's good reading with many of the tips that can be used for Engish vessels also. BTW, are you lofting the bulkheads? I've not seen a framing plan and I have this monograph.
  20. Many hardware stores sell copper tape for use in such things as keeping snail and their ilk out of flower pots. It's self-adhesive. I've not tried it, but I'm assuming it could be used for copper plating. Per foot, it's cheaper there then buying tape from a model shop.
  21. A nice bit of tedious work, Nenad. It seems sometimes that there's more repetition than anything else, doesn't it? I hope all is well and you can spend sometime with Her Majesty. But, also hope the Attorney Strike will end in a positive way and soon.
  22. Welcome to the Darkside.... :D You're off to a great start and I'm looking forward to seeing this one take shape.
