Hamilton, 1) Generally speaking...yes. 2) The line feeds inboard through a hole lined with either lead or leather (depending...) and then (depending on the size and weight of the lid) may go to a set of blocks or just to a cleat. 3) It's my impression that the timbers rest or are attached to the stem. You might ask this in the Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck area.

Max, Put the checkbook down. Make a cup/glass of your favorite beverage and sit back. Now ask yourself this: Where do I want go with this hobby? If it's kits then power tools are a waste of money. If it's scratch building, then kits are a waste of money. Then ask yourself: Where am I in the shipbuilding learning curve? If you're doing more and more scratch work and bashing, what tools will most useful for that? It's a growth process, I think. When you're ready for the big power tool, you'll know it and no one will convince you otherwise. if you're more kit oriented, go for the kit and put the money away until you need that "next thing".. be it tools, kits, or wood. Now I could tell you exactly what I'd buy, but it may not be what you'd want or need. Kinda' evil, aren't I?

Pete, You had to ask.... Back in MSW 1.0, Chad did one where he added some frames, and did the lower part of the main mast and the shot locker. As drawn, the answer is "no" since the cross-section doesn't cover that part of the hull. I think what Chad did was to use the POF drawings and add some framing and other items needed. The sad part is that I don't see Chad's build on MSW 2.0. Matrim (Joss) as well as others might have a copy of his log. However, we can't post it to MSW due to copyright issues. You might try posting a "plea" as it's own topic and see what others have.

Melloch, More info is needed... like which kit manufacturer? Photos would go a long way toward being able to help you.

Grant, From where I sit, usually there's too many ideas to choose from when problem solving.

Superb rigging on a superb model. Excellent work, Ferit. I'm envious. If I can do half as good on my Licorne, I'll be happy.

Casey, Here's another way: Grab some cardstock and trace out what you have for the large piece of wood.. then carefully fit it to the hull, trimming as necessary. When the fit if perfect, copy that template to the wood. Try the template on the other side and see what needs fitting. When done, carefully cut out the wood and leave some meat on it. Then carefully, sand and fit.

Grant, New toys...yep the darkside is so close we can smell it. Congrats on the promotion. Funny thing, I think we spend as much time figuring out what we we're going to make and how to make it as we making the bits and pieces. But that's life in the darkside.

Impressive ropewalk... and that goes for the tow truck as well. That truck is a novel idea.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
