Hello Sjors, friends and followers,

Due to the recent course of events this log has undergone some considerable editing.

Most of the off-topic comments have been removed and posts made by Sjors, his friends and followers have been edited.

I'm truly sorry this had to be done.

When everything has settled down, I hope you will start posting again.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Anja

Thank you Anja for your efforts in this, and thank you Sjors for both agreeing for this to be done and for staying the course through this difficult time.  I look forward to the resumption of your log, and the continuation of my friendship with you both.

Now.....I want some normalcy here....time for some new pics. You have been making great progress with this one Sjors, and I know you were gone for a bit of vacation, but it is time to get back into the shipyard and share with the rest of us.

After my " little" vacation an update.

I know that the rigging is not as it should be.

The rigging goes anywhere and nowhere.

The rigging plans of this model is terrible !

They only say , there goes that but where?

You can find it out your self.

I told it before but I say it again.

Le Mirage is for me a training ship.

I'm learning from this and hopefully I can do a better job on the San Ildefonso.

Nice to see an update again Sjors. For a "training" ship, she is looking pretty good to me!

The fore mast is also done with all the 3 yards and the running rigging of the whole model......

Now I can go to the bowsprit and do some more ratlines.

Then the last rigging .

Lovely work Sjors  :dancetl6:

You are leaping ahead and making a very good job of it

As you know when I get my body back together I will be working on the Will

I am doing this to get a feel of sails

There is actually more rigging on the Will than you might think

post-3712-0-55480600-1385304818_thumb.jpgpost-3712-0-46278000-1385304864_thumb.jpg

One thinks of a barge as a low lying boat pulled along by a horse  :piratetongueor4:

But this was a Thames Barge and used to sail up and down the large river at quite a speed to

deliver stuff from the outer ports to London itself

As an expert in rigging Sjors, and others, have a look at the plans and see if there is anything you may think may be a little tricky

I am hoping the rigging will be fairly simple as I have done it on the Racehorse and Thermopylae, but sails are a mystery yet to be mastered

So have a look and see what you think

See if I can get the rigging to look as good as yours Sjors

Thanks Mick,

I'm a long way from being good but I'm learning....

I have take a look at your plans and I don't see any problem.

The only thing that I want to say to you is this.

When you are attaching the lanyards, don't tie them off yet till you finished the rigging.

There is a little stretch in the rope and make your lanyards looser.

When they are still loose, you can tie them up a little.

Wow Sjors!! NIce, the Rigging Gnomes are hard at work. You will two finished ships very soon, then what will you do?

Not that I am all that knowledgeable ship wise, but I have never seen a sailing ship with a crows next on the bow like that. Is that a period construction detail or a regional detail?

Thanks Sam,

When Le Mirage is finished, I go further on the San Ildefonso and on the first of January I will start at the Agamemnon.

She's under my workbench at the moment.

I don't know if that crows nest  on the bow a period construction detail is.

Maybe someone else knows it.

And don't forget, maybe it's not a real ship.

I can found nothing at all on the internet about her.

Sjors, she looks great!!! OMG you are going to finish before I do....hmmm. Seriously, she does look good, and as you know served as a great learning ship, just think, each ship after will look even better because of all you've learned. Very nice of mobbsie to make you a serving machine....they do make life much easier.
