These are wonderful and you have fabulous talent! Do you have any "American Civil War ship paintings"? Would love to see some of those also. Thank you very much for sharing.

Sorry I don’t have any. However you have planted a seed!. So far it is a period I haven’t really looked at, so you never know.

I've got a question. Since it's mostly water colour, the white horses on the sea and the white in the clouds, is it gouache or acrylic?

Gouache. I am not a Watercolourist in the true sense. I Paint using watercolour paint, but use the same technique  with oils acrylic or gouache . These days I mostly use watercolour.

Early in the morning on Sunday 10 May 1719 HMS Worcester, HMS Flamborough and HMS Enterprise anchored off Eilean Donan and sent a boat ashore under a flag of truce to negotiate. When the Spanish soldiers in the castle fired at the boat, it was recalled and all three ships opened fire on the castle for an hour or more. The next day the bombardment continued while a landing party was prepared. In the evening under the cover of an intense cannonade, a detachment went ashore in the ships' boats and captured the castle against little resistance. According to Worcester's log, in the castle were "an Irishman, a captain, a Spanish lieutenant, a serjeant, one Scotch rebel and 39 Spanish soldiers, 343 barrels of powder and 52 barrels of musquet shot."The naval force spent the next two days and 27 barrels of gunpowder demolishing the castle.

Ironclads!

Amazing work as always Jim! I haven't checked in for a while so it was very enjoyable going back and seeing all the paintings I hadn't seen yet. This is definitely one of my favorite MSW posts. Thanks for sharing!!!

You know, a book of these would be wonderful if ever offered. Be expensive to do, but well worth it for your creativity and beauty with these.

I have of course no idea of your age Jim, but I think your work is plenty good enough to make up a 81/2 X 11 portfolio, and I know for certain I would be buying  at least one copy!

Nice start Jim

One thing is for certain if you continue painting from this era and location there is an almost endless supply of subject material just in the "Tin clad" ships. It seems that every one of them was unique in some way or another.

Wonderful Tinclad painting and look forward to more of these. If you need images or more information on any Civil war ship Union or Confederate I have extensive research and data with images. Here's NO #8 Union Tinclad which a friend of mine is building a model of using a older wooden kit as the basis. Your painting of them is very concise, thank you for posting your new work.

Well some would possibly say that the CVE could be considered as the tin clads of WWII.

Here's the most up to date model which I made of the CC Arkansas, she didn't last but two months during her life but was a tough ship. If you have the time for some art work of her would be fantastic.

Avengers of 849 Squadron from HMS Victorious taking part in Operation Meridian, part of a series of British air attacks directed at Japanese-held oil refineries on Sumatra. Meridian had two phases: Meridian One on 24 January 1945 and Meridian Two on 29 January. As a result, the critical aviation fuel output of the plants at Palembang was reduced by seventy-five percent.
