good evening everyone

the foremast continues, everytime i look at the donar build, i see something new to add, looks like rope ladders next

seams like a lifetime away from getting close to this

Very nice update Kevin, there seems to be a lot of soldering required for the various fittings, that alone would scare me away but you've done a great job.  Seems that the more modern sailing ships and non-military have no armament to worry about, but looks like the work needed on the more complicated metal fittings seem to more than make up for that.

Cheers,

Jason

thank you

i am perhaps doing more soldering than required, and i think i am getting better, the one thing about the metal work, is that its a lot stronger than traditional Evergreen (other plastic bits are available), and once i left the bare metal on the upper deck it seamed to make sense to me to follow it on through the build

good evening everyone

well most of the foremast is complete now, brackets for navigation lights, and placing some of the blocks, along with rope ladders still to be made

although temp in place for now i then run a few of the lines from the bowsprit through and im quite happy with the result

next im thinking of making up the main and mizzen

good afternoon everyone

i decided to continue with the front end of the build and take the bowsprit towards completion, i might then move back onto the Enterprise, as some of the comments on here made me feel more confident towards taking her forward

i had , what i thought was a good idea, but i guess it wasn't as no one else had tried it, that was to use a different coloured thread to use as templates to ensure everything was snag free, for that purpose it works fine, but to get a sense of what its going to look like (dont work) as it carries no weight

all blocks that attach to pintles or none rope tend to have round collets, i have tried to replicate this using and alternative evergreen tube

IMG_0193.thumb.JPG.5f894041f6ffe563bddcd5a3d14d8540.JPGIMG_0194.thumb.JPG.28b8e2dee12b8ee94c4301d035dfa694.JPG

IMG_0195.thumb.JPG.74beca0246fa2abb426599170d76408d.JPG

this is my bowsprit rigging plan, and bears absolutely no resemblance to the kit plans, to tells me the size of rope and where it is belayed/ fixed to

start of my coloured thread experiment to get a snag free runs

IMG_0206.thumb.JPG.df072006e0eb8aed9b8dc85e96ff84c1.JPGIMG_0207.thumb.JPG.a9a637463ea729b0a4f012586988e8f8.JPGIMG_0208.thumb.JPG.f39daa714821ed0cef3a82942a62641d.JPG

some lines go to the same fixing point, so i am having to adapt my work (lol again)

IMG_0209.thumb.JPG.0cca6680a2183c0989b59bf5bfe91c06.JPG

not a briiliant photo as the collets have bunched up up the middle one has to fixing point on the top

good afternoon everyone

although i have the intentions of a break for a couple of weeks from the AV i have slowly been getting on with her

most of the starboard side bowsprit lines are in and the lines for the Port side are made up ready

it is much slower this build as i have to make the lines, then stain them, but im happy with the progress

good evening everyone

well i have had a few weeks away from the mancave, DIY, Gardening and looking forward to being in the mancave again, But i am going back to the Amerigo, i really want to finish this, and the condition with the admiral is, nothing new until she is complete, the addition of the sails is not in the contract,

that gives me a while maybe another 4 moths to finish the rigging at least and time to think about whats next

i like to think ahead

a large paddle steamer - Like the Talisman i have a 1/48 hull and plans

or a ferry kit from linkspan

i also love the new @chris watton Spinix

lol it took me quite a while to sort out everything and get to where i left off

main mast,

i am finding it difficult to get any distance between the parts of the mast that overlap, the metal fittings are drilled out as much as i dare, whilst i ponder that i got on with the upper platform spreaders

futtock shrouds were done today which then meant i could get on with the rest of the main mast

upper spreaders done made yesterday , have now been fitted

surprising is the fact the the main mast is very similar size wise to the foremast

ty OC the mizzen is next then hoping to start the upper shrouds at the same time as adding all the missing detail on the decks,

why is it that im happiest building boats then after a while i want to do something else, get bored with that very quickly and come back to the main build

lol

sometimes i wonder if i have ever learnt anything in model boat building

yes i have only  built kits, and as a result i used in most cases what is supplied, but today i noticed that with the revised build details the call out for the Amerigo is 16 sizes of rope,  8 cordage and the same in steel, but what i didnt know was that even the shrouds are different diameters

I feel you man. The you have to deal with the difference between the two different directions the ropes can be twisted when made...and which side of the ship each kind goes on...and if you are making your own ropes...it gives me a headache.

i am making my own ropes, using the @Alexey Domanoff VR 3.1 machine and Mara 30, 70, 100 and 120 threads
