HMS Zulu 1942 & HMS Eskimo 1944 by RGL - FINISHED - Trumpeter - 1/350 - PLASTIC

So fresh off the boat (or plane) from NZ, a test print of Micromaster’s Tribal class destroyers fit out. Still missing a few bits but as usual amazing stuff.

It looks like at least with one company 3D has surpassed PE for detail! I wonder how many companies will follow suit?

I have good side cutters but they come off very easily. He still has a quad pompom to go and some other stuff.

I don’t think the big companies will copy it as it’s so complex. The naked eye is not good enough to see the details on these things. It’s kinda a balance between building and just painting. I love PE and I don’t know how much fun a complete 3D printed ship would be not that much fun and need a LOT of skil to paint it properly.

I only imagine quite soon (I think Simon is finishing up the quad Pom Poms and some bridge equipment) but he’s apparently flat out with orders.

With that much 3D on this build it looks like you are going to find out. I personally think it looks impressive.

Are they from the Infini “Watertight Doors Set” by any chance?

I actually used some from an Alliance Modelworks set as they were much finer

Some nice resin and PE parts there Greg.  WRT screw, while a much nice part I note it is 3 vice 4 bladed - which was correct?

3 I believe, the ships boats in the kit are Kriegsmarine

those resin bits look stunning, but like you said you are left with nothing to do other than paint and add, thats not so much a hobby, i suppose the fun bit would be designing your own, but that opens another can of worms doesnt it,

I’ve seen people put them on their ships painted with hairy sticks, unfortunately they are so detailed they only work with an airbrush. So the detail get lost.  Different type of art really. I really enjoy PE still.

One thing about using the Micro Mark after market. If you don't go to the same level with the rest of the model, there will be a glaring contrast between the super detailed places/fittings and the standard areas of the model. Even with the added PE and work by Greg the Micro Mark threatens to take over.

Yep that’s the pinch really, it’s going to be a very busy couple of ships by the time I’ve finished.

Although, I have to comply with most, that the details are stunning, I cannot escap the impression, some of it is still rather coarse for the scale you're working on. There are limitations to what one can see at this scale, and what not. At times the detail is in leaving things out ...

I can only see a lot of the details with the magnifying glass. The depth charge  throwers are a challenge to paint as the airbrush blows them away. I’ll keep Zulu tidy and beat up the Eskimo.
