They would be bigger cause they were paraffin wax based lamps, the base was a big giant wax pot or candle holder... Much like a whale oil lamp but with much heavier oil... they were bigger cause they didn't put out much light, barely enough to see the step into the stage.... But, they would burn all night without tending and last for several days before refilling.....

thank you we all learn something new everyday

Looks like the wall and ceiling of my house when the 123 year old plaster fell off a couple of weeks ago leaving just the lath boards exposed!

Your coach is looking looking quite interesting. I never looked all that closely at how they were constructed before.

A little more parallel I suppose but other than that looked pretty much the same. I could have repaired it myself, (slowly) but I hired a drywall company and they did a FANTASTIC job. You cannot tell where the new wall and ceiling meets the old. They blended it perfectly! Cost a few more dollars than I would have liked but well worth it.

I built this kit a number of years ago & it appears they have redesigned the kit at some time.  Your build photos look almost totally different from what I remember!  The chassis looks about the same, but the coach work is almost totally different.  I don`t have it anymore - built it for my Sister`s husband, who used to work for Wells Fargo.  I will see if I can get some pictures if you would like to see it.

good evening everyone

i have a problem (or maybe i am the problem) is the doctor still around?

my desire to get on with the Enterprise is making me want to put this away, which is a shame, does anyone else suffer from that, or is it that i am spoilt for choice,

anyway i did a few bits but moved on the the soft furnishings

the coach internal has to seats either end and a bench through the middle 2 + 3 + 2 and two up top

these were fun to make up, but the nail heads do detract the final finish, i am trying to dull them down

I would suggest the point of an indelible black gel pen.... maybe a millimeter in size? Cover them right up real quick and never come off....

good evening everyone

thank you for the comments, i got the Enterprise out of storage, did a lot of contemplating, and thought i need to finish something, I have very little to show for this year, other than the display case, im aware its not a race but that’s me so the coach continues

both sides are now pretty well covered, and the wrapping of the ends is going on, a lot of sanding is required

the final couple are with the seats just placed in for now to see how she looks

good evening everyone

most of the outside cladding is done now and i have been doing a lot of sanding on her today

what do you call the box the crew sit on, well what ever it id called, work has progressed on that as well

IMG_0700.thumb.JPG.e34a4fcd56860f988668ee4178f2cc26.JPG

the side panels are leather (well simulated) and this confused me for a while, the material is used to cover both sides of the wooden pieces and pulled across the open area, so why not make it one piece

quite a lot still has to be done before i can put this into place, and yes i keep looking at the enterprise, worrying myself on where to restart on her

good evening everyone

been quiet on the building front last few days, life got in the way and i have a new project, my mum gave me all the family albums that she has for safe keeping, they are all pre digital, so loosing them would actually mean loosing them, i have started to scan them into my Pc, done 500 so far, about 4000 im not interested in and another couple thousand i will be doing over the next few weeks

me with dad in 74 on Christmas leave during my trade training and  must be 75 to prove that i did used to build fly things

good evening everyone

well i did get a bit done on the coach, the area under the driver position is apparently called the winch box, still to go in the a flap, behind which sits a 9vt battery to power the lights

good evening everyone

having completed most of the veneer it was time to put the double bottom on, which took place without any issues,

IMG_0736.thumb.JPG.16c007e71ecd88bdc0d43befedceb912.JPG

most of the carriage has also been pretty well sanded to a nice finish, lol by my standards so a diluted gloss varnish has been added to the ends and under, as well as the end walls internally,

this is then going to give me a base to put all the coach work on top ( the fiddly bits)

(NOT MY PHOTO)

i have also started the doors, also made up the same as the body, so some sanding will be required to match it

Hi Kevin - as promised, here are some pics of my stage coach.  Looking at your pics, it`s obvious they made a lot changes to the kit since I built mine.

good evening everyone

i went back to the stagecoach this week, im finding it very hard to get into anything at present, last week it was building and painting a couple of dolls houses for the wife,

circumstances in Europe, loosing my main ship build in Jan and storm damage to my property last week have certainly played a big part

i stripped the frame work down again and re-primed it and bought a decent yellow rattle can rather than brushing on acyrilics

Stagecoach looking good, Kevin

And the dollhouses look good, too, What scale are they? I have a buddy here who used to build upscale furniture for these houses in I think 1/12 scale. He used the furniture catalogs from a home named Winterthur, outside Philadelphia, PA. Built clocks, dining room sets; he's was prolific with the furniture.
