Hi All,

I need to get a few 1:64 scale sailors for the boat to help me “visualize” the build a little better (if that makes sense). Not interested at this point to do any figure painting. Those of you who have dabbled, what is your source for scale sailors? Thanks

Dave

Current builds: Rattlesnake

Completed builds: Lady Nelson

On the shelf: NRG Half Hull Project, Various metal, plastic and paper models

Amati have a range of crew in various sizes. 25mm is the close to 1/64, depending on the original height of the crew member.

AL has some also, but I'm not sure of the exact scale but some are pre-painted.   Also there's the various places selling figures and other items using the 3D printing tech.  You might do a search here on MSW and see what you get.   There's been more than few posts on these... including in build logs.

Worse case, make one or two.  They don't take much time and there's the satisfaction part.  I've made one and as I recall, took about an hour or less.

The Amati figures are pretty good, they need a bit of cleaning up with a file or knife but are miles better than the many “World of Warcraft” 1/64 figures on the www that look like Hobbit’s on steroids. The NRG ones look proper ‘in scale’ figures (no chunky limbs or ‘Hobbit’ feet), so think they are worth looking at, but I haven’t bought any.   The Vanguard ones are excellent, but the wrong time frame for Lady Nelson.

Dave,

The NRG figures come in a variety of scales. You have to select a model and then select the scale. (unfortunately, you can't select the scale first to see what is available). It appears not all figures are available in all scales.

If you're still on the hunt for 1:64 scale figures, CatzPaw has figures for model railroading.  You might be able to paint or modify appropriately to look like sailors/officers.  For example, I ordered a figure with a top hat because my model is in the 1840s era and top hats were popular, even in naval uniforms.

Just to let you know we (CatzPaw) just added two figures to our line up that might be fitting. A 1900's Riverboat Captain and First Mate. They are available in 1:64 and 1:87 scale; but we can scale and print to any size needed. Be sure to look for them on our page.
