day 27

doing quite a lot of DIY at present so the build gets some work done as and when i get the chance

my mancave is basically a 3 sided log cabin bolted to the side of the house, it gets quite drafty in there, and with the way things are going at the moment we have decided to warm it up a bit and line it throughout

the drawback  (brave thing to say) i will be sharing it a lot more with her indoors  her in my mancave the Boi is normally with me anyway, as i am quite close to the fridge

the East side (coldest) is now 99% done, and wow what a difference, it has also reduced the noise from the M5 (Tauton, Brdgwater, Bristol) stretch considerably

 

anyway the build

Making up bits from fwd to aft and placing them into position prior to painting, the fwd well deck cranes were fun

Hi Kev,

 

just noticed that the deck water breakers are upside down (maybe left to right, but i cannot see on the photo)

They must connect to the forward cargo hatch wall. Here is an original pic and another 3D render to better sight.

Please note that the 3D model one omits the steam winch driveshaft. Also, on the original picture the forward hatch cover already removed, and placed on the deck near to the missing rail section..

been a while since I last popped in.........and I must say,  you've made quite a bit of progress!    super job on your deck mods and room additions......the lighting is well done also.  your question of why you are on this site should be obvious...........you are with other like minded folk who dare venture into what has never been done,  and share with others.  I think you are in good company

well that week went by fast, and no boat building took place

 

Putin will get the blame for this, but it needed to be done, my mancave is now a space where the wife can join me during the winter months to save heating more of the house than necessary.

by man cave is basically a 3-sided log cabin bolted to the side of the house, and what ever we did to it it was still just a shed in the garden, and in the winter it gets quite cold in there, well not so much now

all the walls have now been sealed, lined, papered and painted, and what a difference it has made, no more draughts, in fact it is retaining the heat and spreading into the house

Yes, you can keep your feet warm, by placing them on the dog, sleeping underneath. Good plan!!!

taken a couple of days to sort myself out and get back into the build, finding everything is the issue

i have started to fill the portholes in with PVA glue, a process that is going to take a while, but the ones that worked about 9/10 are ok and give me the result i wanted, just 1000's to go

i am now going to work from front to back and the forecastle has some attention now, it looks ok, but the railings are so fine, they will have to wait

the foremast is made up, but will be secured later

the steam winches and other bits are still to be painted

the forward well deck is next

Kevin, there is a product by MicroScale that does a fantastic job of turning portholes into clear glass. I used it for my 3D printed Corvette, with much bigger portholes than your Britannic. The name escapes me but you will be able to find it easily. Dries very fast and very clear.

Is it  like the product I used  on my  dio  to make the water  in the pond  -  a  gel like  liquid  that  your poor in and after a day or  so it dries clear?

day ? forward well deck

 

i made the decision to leave the forecastle for now as there was the risk of something being damaged, the railings are quite fragile

 

this is how the forward well deck looks as off last night

 

i still have to place vents, bollards, ladders, and possibly change the steam winches on top of the raised hatchway from black to white

Deluxe Materials "Glue 'n' Glaze" is the product I have found that is better than PVA glue for glazing windows and portlights. It is similar in consistency but seems to give a better appearance.

Microscale Kristal Clear is the product I was looking for. Very easy to use and makes great and realistic portholes:

after a couple of days in the forward well deck i have gone up to the funnel deck, this is the section i added the play room to several weeks ago, windows and doors added.it looks ok

the KA MK1 upgrade set adds many pumps and vents to the model, but the Britannic is very different to where they are situated, creating a lot of head scratching, so i am putting everything in the right place as if it was Titanic and then sort it out from there
