Greetings from New Jersey

Hello all. My name is Steve. I have been doing home improvements, woodworking, and restoration/maintenance on full-size sailboats as as hobbies for years. I thought I would enjoy trying my hand at building a model sailboat as that seems to be something I would really enjoy--especially in the winter months where there is less to occupy my time around our recently emptied nest.

I am married, have 5 children (all grown), and 2 grandchildren who are approaching 3 years old. We own a 1970 Tartan 34C sailboat that I spend way more time working on than sailing. Just finished refitting it with an inboard electric motor (replacing the Atomic 4) if anyone is interested in that. We sail in Barnegat Bay with an occasional trip up to the New York area.

This morning I received my BlueJacket Swampscott Dory as my first foray into the hobby. In addition to being a really nice looking model, it seems easier but difficult enough to see if this is something I would continued with. I plan to start a Build Log in the next few days.

Looking forward to being part of this community. Thanks for letting me in!

Hello Steve...welcome to the forum.  I am sure you get a lot of inspiration and help here on MSW.  There are also a lot of great folks who I can say from personal experience will become life long friends.

Please also check out the Ship Model Society of New Jersey.  I am a member there and we meet once a month.   Google our club website and feel free to drop by and visit during one of our meetings.  We meet at the Roseland Public Library on one Tuesday evening per month.

Welcome from a former NJ ship modeler.   I also highly recommend you visit the club as suggested above, they are truly great group with tons of experience.

Welcome Steve, from a  former Great Lakes sailor. Tartan makes a beautiful boat. I had a S2 9.2 myself.

Starting a build log is a great idea, as as viewing the build logof others.

Take your time, you will find this group a great resource so don't hesitate to ask questions.

Current build: NRG Half Hull

Previous build: MS Bluenose

Welcome. I encourage you to do a build log. When you finish, I will give you 10% off the next kit you buy from us. Dozens of people have already taken advantage of this offer.

You can find many helpful people here on MSW, and, you can always call us if you hit a delicate problem you don't want to share publicly.

Melissa--thanks! I had looked through your entire build log earlier this week. Lots of info in there--should help me a lot.

Welcome to MSW Steve.  In my opinion, this is *the* place to be if you are into ship models.  Looking forward to eye-balling your build log when you get one rolling.  It is always fun to look at and learn from the efforts of others!
