ty Janet- the billing kits can have a lot of plastic especially the earlier ones. The later ones do use a lot of laser cut ply though. Managed to get the chainplates fastened to the hull- the brass cleats still need painted black.

Hi Keith,

I noticed you have primed the bottom of your Victory,i am building HMS Snake and i am about to copper the hull.

I was going to use super glue and i wondered whether i needed to prime the hull.

Janet,

I used superglue when coppering the hull of my Victory, and yes I primed it first to prevent absorption ... still firmly adhering after a year :)

Hope that helps.

Hi Janet sorry for delay in answering- i used self adhesive copper tape cut into tiles so didn't need to bother with superglue, but agree with phil- if you prime then sand back it will provide a smoother surface to apply tiles to.

janet bode,

Hi clearway have followed your build from start,i did not realize that Billings kits were that good.Some-one told me that they were lots of

plastic parts anyway i am very impressed with you lovely build of Victory.

Hi Janet, to echo what's been said above, I'm also doing the Billings Victory and the only plastic parts are the gun carriages.

Hi again and tanks for the comments likes and views all. Billings didn't intend the guns to be rigged so decided to add the breeching ropes, but for the sake of sanity didnt add the blocks and tackles.

also drilled into the leading axle on each carriage and the deck to pin the guns in place- dont want these bad boys coming loose!

Have fun all

painted the skid beam assembly and finally got it fastened in place. Next job is the supporting pillars- also stained the pin rails and assembled the ladders into the waist- added a piece of veneer to the outside edge to disguise the slots in the ply sides to them.

Thanks again for the likes, comments and views everyone. Painted the belfry, added the brass bell, carved and filed the supports for the skid beams from square section limewood then stained using ronseal dark oak stain/ varnish. Also added the kevels (billings didn't actually include the kevels for the main yard lifts so added these). Need to start thinking about adding fastenings for the rigging too before i start the hammock nettings. The rail at the front of the quaterdeck isn't actually glued in place yet.

hi again all, using longridge as a reference altered/ updated the billings plans as they either simplified or missed a lot of rigging! Also attached and trussed lashed the breeching ropes and added the block and tackles on the quarter deck - not sure whether to leave these or remove and just leave the breeching ropes. Added the billing brass belaying pins- none of the hammock netting cranes are glued in place yet.

I have the same questions about fully rigging the exposed canons. When fully rigged, they have breach, out-hall, and train tackle. This is a lot of rope to be hanging around a deck on a model of this scale. I' not sure how visually appealing this would be. I do know that installing all this in such tight quarters will drive me bonkers- and that's if my eyes and hands can still do this work. I'll probably bight the bullet and go for one fully rigged canon to check out my skills. But, I'm thinking that it wind up with just the breaching rope.

Your Victory is really nice. Continue to enjoy the build.

Hi Keith did you also get the netting for the hammock stays few painstaking evenings predicted threaded them .

I choose to thread every single loop in the netting was a struggle but worth it in the end

These look fantastic.

If I ever saw a part that just begged to get knocked off or repeatedly bent, hammock cranes win by a long shot. I'm not up to this part yet, but I think I am probably going to delay hammock cranes until all of the interior deck and rigging work are complete.

Thanks for all the likes and views everyone. Hi Steve- billings supplied netting but it is green! a spray paint job in order there, and  ca shipright i have already knocked one off!:P I delayed gluing them but had to do it at some point- for this very reason i am not adding the stern lanterns till last.

Hi Keith, I looked into the green netting issue too and it was suggested to get a roll of black tulle fabric. The fine, diagonal mesh looks a lot better than the stuff that comes with the kit. About £1 on eBay! Saves faffing about with spray painting.

Hi again all- finished adding the details to the bowsprit- think i got the stop cleats for bobstays and saddle for spritsail yard right- billings didn't bother with them!

As i was thinking only the hammock netting left before masting and rigging i realised i hadn't fitted the davit mountings and deadeyes/ chainplates for the breast and back stays:huh:.

the marines walk and supporting pillars arn't actually glued in place yet- just wanted to see how they would look and check clearances with bowsprit in place, also need to glue figurehead in place as well.

have fun all and ty for comments and support over the last couple of years- always appreciated.

Chris,

Vicki is looking real good.

So many great logs of so many great builds and so little time to read them. I have found that following logs other than the builds I am working on always gives me great ideas. Ship to ship transference is really easy.

The rope walks are just as clean as the rest of the model. Great job.

Thanks again for likes, views & comments everyone. Hammock netting progressing with three runs left to do (last two on poop deck will be a pain to cut out)! Also got a bit o paint on ye olde bowsprit. The piece of white plastic nestled in the starboard netting is to stop me going boss eyed while threading the near most run of netting!
