Rigging the tackles for the main and mizzen masts turned out to be a little less difficult than I expected, but will admit, they would have been much easier if I had completed this task before rigging the shrouds (as recommended by Chuck in the instructions).

Much tougher on the small ship than the larger one.

Beginning with the fact that I finally have a rigged yard (Lanteen)....

post-11777-0-31007000-1422913732.jpg

Creating the Parral was probably the most challenging task related to this stage.

post-11777-0-44536700-1422913795_thumb.jpg

Note the addition of the Topmast Backstays (Main and Mizzen), which I discovered had not yet been completed.

post-11777-0-14436600-1422913955_thumb.jpg

The Garnet Tackle, seen here, was another little surprise task I discovered that I had not previously completed.

post-11777-0-78963100-1422913986_thumb.jpg

All in all, this was a fairly straight forward rigging task, made much tougher by the fact that I had not done that much rigging in over three years. I think I may be beginning to get a little feel back.

Not quite there yet.... but making progress.

I can see where it would be easy to forget a sequence of planned tasks, but the main thing is, you caught it.  :) And by the looks of it, you haven't lost your touch Dave!

By the way, Chuck....OUR Confederacy just ran away with BEST IN SHOW at this year's North Carolina Maritime Society's annual Boat Builders Show. Held this past weekend in Beaufort, NC.

Please bring it up to Manitowoc if you can. The contest and show are in May. I think it would thrill the judges and impress the other modelers. Plus you would be around people who understand what you are doing. Just go to the Wisconsign Maritime Museum to get the details. Plus I think you would have a ball. We have modelers come from New Jersey and as far as Colorado. Think of it as a nice road trip.

Thanks for the invitation DaveB.... Just checked Google map and got nose bleed when I saw where Manitowoc is on the map.

Are they completely thawed out by May? Ha ha

Aside from that, I've got to go back to Beaufort in May to defend my title.

Speaking of Beaufort (NC).... That is the location of the NC Maritime Museum. I met with the Modelers Club there this past Saturday and took this shot of a beautiful model of the pirate "Blackbeard's" ship.... Queen Ann's Revenge. I'm guessing this is somewhere around 1:36 scale.

Dave, one question. I made couple on your way ... nice, in scale, but ... seem so fragile to use with rope ???

Nenad.... Indeed they are fragile because of the scale. I simply made sure no heavy tension was applied to the stem end. I didn't run into any problems so far.... Made sure the top end is carrying the load.

Thanks mates.

Since I will be donating this smaller one for the charity auction in Fayetteville, it really is a load of my mind to know it will be finished in time.

Having never sold a model ship before....

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what amount I should set as the "Minimum Opening Bid"?

And how much would I hope to get for this one, considering the proceeds go to charity?

Now, I can turn to the "Bamboo Lady" and focus on finishing her up.

Lovely work, Dave.  It is interesting that the spritsail yard braces both belay on the starboard side.   Are the inner lines clues?  Just curious.  This era is a bit outside my limited expertise.

I think the photo might be misleading Ed.  The braces are belayed to both sides (not a great photo).

The inner lines .... Chuck refers to them as "lifts".... I have always called them "clewlines".

I will take much better pics once I do the larger ship.  Admittedly, this was a little bit of a rush job.

Here's a good example of why I chose to build the larger scale Mayflower.  I didn't even attempt to add the detail of the iron straps to the ramshead block on the smaller version.

UPDATING Mayflower 2.... (the Bamboo Lady)

Finally completed the rigging.

post-11777-0-44137100-1424190954_thumb.jpg

The rigging went much better on the larger scale model after practicing on the smaller one first.

The spritsail was still quite a challenge due to the fact that there 18 blocks involved in the rigging of this one yard.

post-11777-0-27409200-1424191134_thumb.jpg

Belaying these lines to the pins on the beakhead gave me a fit on the smaller scale.  Went much better this time.

Tried to get in on that little ramhead block I showed earlier.

post-11777-0-19202600-1424191615_thumb.jpg

Here's the ramhead block rigged for the foreyard halyard.... securing it down below the deck was quite a challenge.

Not real happy with it, but ain't about to re-do this little baby.

Finally fitted the water pumps. Seems like I built them forever ago.

Dave,

I do not know how you go so fast building and rigging..... It is simply amazing.

As for the starting price, do not make it too high to start with, otherwise people will not bid on it.

You need to get the audience "primed" first, at the idea of winning (eventually) and then it will happen by itself.

In case there might be confusion.... there are TWO Mayflowers being built here.

I am going to donate the smaller 1:72 scale model for the fund raising event in Fayetteville on April 18th.

This last posting is the larger 1:60th scale.... will be exhibited in Fayetteville, but will not be auctioned.
