I like the canopy...could be these shots I suppose, but I think it is helping provide a nice contrast point and so makes the rest of your precise decking details show up more clearly.

Nigel - I think you're right about the canopy.  The more I look at it, the more I agree that it adds a special point of interest to the overall appearance.  So, in a way, it's growing on me!

I liked the mockup. I like the real canopy even more! Great build. This is one of those builds that makes me think: "That looks like fun. Wouldn't mind trying something like that one day".

Nick- thanks for the compliment. Have a go and I'll definitely be following along. It's great fun doing these small models and they take up hardly any space.

 

BDGiantman2 - thanks for your query about the wheel. Yep, there's still heaps more to add, including the stern cockpit's wheel and binnacle, winches, etc. I also have to add the steering wheel in the centre cockpit, life rafts, railings, masts, etc.

 

Denis - thanks. I had thought about doing a collapsed cover, but, it just got too hard; so, I settled for doing it this way. Thanks for your suggestion, though!

 

Carl - thanks. The cardboard mockup certainly looked strange, but at least it did the trick!

Hi everyone

 

A quick update for you.  I've made a start on the rear cockpit's steering wheel as well as the smaller ship's wheel in the centre cockpit (see white wheel on the lid of the paint tin).  Both wheels need to be painted a wood colour.

 

I've also added the trailboards at the bow.

 

Anyhow, here are the photos.

Hi everyone

 

Last night I painted the main ship's wheel a wood colour (to match the full sized ship's wheel). I also did a few more of the fittings on the tip of the bowsprit.

 

Lots of work still to go, of course.

My goal is to replicate as much detail as I can; using the logic "if it can be seen on the full sized ship, then it can be put on the model ".

Another milestone was reached last night, with Symphony's two masts being stepped (roughly and temporarily, of course, at this early stage).      The main boom has also been fashioned along with the spreaders on each mast.  

 

Heaps more work to do, though.
