Hi Daryl, I for one would be grateful for any report on problems, challenges and hiccups (as well as good news too). Not only is it interesting of course but also so helpful for us learners as a tool on things to watch out for in your kit and others. But also to know we are not alone when we discover theses things for ourself. And happy birthday to your nephew too

Big congratulations to Hothead Nenad! You must be so proud (and rightly so). And I do love your "mud" method on your decks. They look so very good!

Hi again! And sorry for the slow reply (I have been away). I fully understand and agree with being picky and redoing the bits we aren't happy with, particularly as we are so new at this and learning so much as we go! I am glad I found your log so we can compare and maybe inspire each other as we go? In answer to your question though, my plan for my own Suprise is towards the Historical version as much as possible with my skills and I would be incredibly grateful for any suggestions, pointers, or information you have found yourself but please, please don't feel obliged! Apart from the challenges of building ships, I am learning there is so much confusing, differing and opposing information about the ships we build. Still, that makes it fun too haha. I forgive you for supporting the wrong team, but you definitely get bonus points for being a Baseball fan! (The Sunday Night game on ESPN is playing live now and Tanaka is on the mound!) Thank you again for your kind words and sorry again for the slow reply, but I am back now haha

Ohhhh thank you for the big tip Brett! As a new builder I didn't even think about how wood would expand when wet and then shrink back as it dries. Without your post, I would have found out the very hard way later on. Thank you again!

Every ship should have her own mysteries! So please do not call it a mistake (it looks too good), and just call it a a cunning plan to give your Royal Louis her own special touch!

One of the good things about being offline a few days is that I get to come back and catch up on all the logs of different ships, and different builders. The REALLY good thing about that is it allows me to truly appreciate it when I see the photos of the genuine Master Builders and you are most certainly one of those Denis. Your Sovereign of the Seas looks just incredible! (And I love the pictures/maps on the walls behind too haha)

A busy work surface means you MUST be having fun! Fantastic work on the rudder and tiller! That really looks just perfect. However, I am a bit cranky with you as after reading through your last couple of posts and seeing how good they really are, I now have to go and buy a bunch of Chuck Passaro's cannons haha

Hi JesseLee, I can't be any help with your question about the deadeyes and chain plates sorry, but I can say I have seen some logs where they were made out of wire instead of thread and they sure turned out great. Whatever you decide, I am pretty sure with your skills it will come out great! Good Luck!

Hi Jack, I am so happy to read that your right hand is feeling better, and I can see it is working just fine too! What great (and clever) work on the mast foot. I really do prefer your version to the first one!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
