  1. Well, at least it's not like there are hundreds of them like christmas lights.... one by one... you'll figure it out
  2. Ah heck, I think he had the confidence all along... but it's always nice to have support and people behind pushing.... but I agree, ... lets not go overboard here... and I wannna see pictures Oh and btw , honored
  3. Beautiful work Jack. I look forward to following your build as it progresses.
  4. Good day Ferit. Always a pleasure to see your latest work... so precise, so streamlined, so... graceful. You have a true talent my friend.
  5. I just don't know how many ways to say 'stunning'. I watch and read and often forget I'm looking at a tiny replica versus full size until a finger or pencil nib is shown. Outstanding!!
  6. Well Sjors, you sound like a confident man ready to tackle the transom and so much more....besides, I've seen your work... this little bump in the road is NOT beyond your capabilities.... no sir, it's not....
  7. Beautiful build Theo. The ST from Occre is one of my potential 'next builds' and your build is encouraging. I especially like the gun ports; those metal ports supplied look exactly like the stuff from AL on the San Fran. I will have to remember your technique and your carriages are a huge improvement too. Looking forward to following along
  8. Everything starts out rough... the finest table in the land started as a rough sawn log... what matters is how it ends and I'm sure you'll make it look great
  9. My condolences to you and your family Suzanne. Your father will be missed and remembered fondly.
  10. Nice Adriaan, real nice. I like how you've thought it out and designed your solution around your objective...smart. Sure, you almost have to finish the kits you've already bought, like the GF but I definitely see scratch builds in your future. Heck, I can't wait to see what you do with the GF. Oh, and the lights... can't wait for the lightshow either
  11. Obviously, you set very high standards for yourself. I'd be pretty satisfied with that paint job.... however, knowing you and seeing your work to date... that vessel is gonna get a dunk in mineral spirits, a thorough sanding and a repaint Admit it... you've thought of it haven't you?
  12. Congratulations Sjors. Wow, 25 again.... that's great... so much to do... again... As for me, not being 25 again I'm looking forward to your rebuild.... don't forget lots of pictures along the way of course...
  13. Actually Jim, look for a local chapter of the Modeliolistic Society of the Whichonenextologists.... (MSW?) They are easy to spot as they all look glassy eyed from lusting after build logs, a tiny bit of spittle usually on the left side of the mouth and more than two fingers stuck together with CA glue. Doesn't sound terribly attractive but a good kind-hearted harmless bunch I'm told my membership card is in the mail
  14. Looks great Robbyn... I think we may be on the same page here... I too am not a huge fan of obscuring good wood behind paint or copper plates but sometimes it does look good...for instance in this case with your longboat The paint works with the friezes and just wait for that red.... it'll pop!
  15. Yes Sjors, I agree with the majority... good repaint!
  16. It took me a few minutes to figure it out but once I did... all I can say is Wow! Meshes beautifully. Very, very nice!
  17. Riverrat's right Eric, planes work great but, and I say it cause it needs saying and I don't know if you know it, but pushing the plane over the wood in one direction with the grain is right and the other direction against the grain is very wrong. You'll know when the wood bites and tears versus shusses along sweetly If you already knew that... good! otherwise... Oh, and yeah, BTW, your planking is going nicely, looking good!
  18. I guess that's one of those universal sayings cause it's almost a motto in Cincinnati
  19. I feel your pain Kevin... I can't seem to find the time either.... to get into the build I need to get INTO it... not just slip into the shipyard and give it 10 minutes... so other stuff wins for today... like sunshine, exercise and posting to MSW It makes it all the more special when I can carve out an hour or two
  20. I think I need to revisit this topic as i like the lines of this ship but the comments below somewhat scare me off. I nearing the end of my San Fran II (a month or two still to go) and I'm looking to the next build. I rather thought I would go with this model as a kit with a heavy scratch-build element of many areas (plastic boats... never!) which in a way is the advice of Blue Ensign. Any additional thoughts or cautions would be appreciated.
  21. I can't tear it out again... I just CAN'T! Three restarts is enough. I'll use the AL stuff for the shrouds and morope for everything else... ratlines and all the other stuff that I don't even know about yet but see in vague pictures.... but I admire your determination to get it right... I just have to consider my sanity at this point and if I ripped those shrouds out again I might lose the will to re-shroud for a fourth time. Hmmm...
  22. She looks really good Jim and your hinges look crisp too. I spent so much time trying to work that brass-like metal that I ended up snapping them in half and had to start from scratch. That's not a bad thing of course That pliers you grooved is a neat trick too... darn... i never thought of that
