I agree with the first two respondents... it sounds possible but also sounds like the results will not really be what you will want and may end up costing as much or more. IMO ... either get another plastic kit to revisit your youth or find a wooden kit that you like and can afford. The two together doesn't really appeal to me but as is said a few thousand times on this site.... your ship, your decisions

I don't know where I've been for these last few months or so but I just found your build... just in time it seems. That's okay tho since I get to go from start to finish in one sitting. Well done Mario! Beautiful! I like the little touches, the net and basket and especially the anchor. Love that anchor for some reason It's so... perfectly fitting.

Put the camera on a stack of books or a sturdy table, pre-focus and touch the shutter ever so gently.... might take a few tries but as long as the camera doesn't move when the shutter is open then it's picture time... Yea!!

I think you're english is very good Ferit... a little mistake here and there but so what, everybody makes mistakes and I think what you intend to say is easy to understand ... I can only imagine how bad I would sound if I had to speak your native tongue.

Thank you Ferit. Your confidence in me is uplifiting. I always like your suggestions too and your drawing looks very similar to the way I just did a prototype with the bottom ring forming around a fat 1.5mm sewing needle stuck into a board. I need the junction to be farther from the deadeye tho as when I solder I fear the flame being that close to the wooden deadeye. In that case I probably will not wrap the top. True, I know how to solder but not well enough to make it an easy time.... most of the time it is trial and error ... I have to do 30 deadeyes with strops and around number 15 or so I'll start to get a rhythm I hope!

Which kits have the best instructions?
lamarvalley replied to ortho85's topic in Wood ship model kits
My ship, the san francisco, also by AL, is my first build and it has been both a blessing and a curse. I had woodworking experience but no ship knowledge, none at all. The instructions are written in 6 languages so that works for most but they assume I know more than i do. Also, their directions are sparse... for example for planking... 'go ahead and apply planks to the hull and sand when finished". One sentence oh boy! That one sentence took me weeks and weeks to accomplish. Plus their pictures don't necessarily match and 3 views of the same part show different solutions. Sounds horrible right? Well, not really because it forced me to push myself, figure it out myself and lean on fellow modelers here on this site and that is the blessing part. So, I learned, maybe better and deeper than if they had held my hand. All in all, a great beginner ship that was at the beginning far over my head .... not now tho!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
