  1. I agree on the wipe-on giving the planks a nice color contrast. Much better than the same color over-all. Nice work Mark!
  2. OK - I thought you would have, but if not, as you say, now is the time for corrections. I've seen a lot of guys fabricate a cannon "mock-up" out of cardboard for measuring purposes. That should make checking it easier.
  3. I like the way you think Ken. I've got a question, and it's probably something I missed in previous posts, but adding the thickness of the planking, to the thickness of the plywood, isn't that a little more than what was removed from the bulkhead? I'm asking because if it's off, the height of the cannon-barrels wouldn't line up right in the gun ports would they?
  4. The fact that the planks are short, doesn't really surprise me Ken, but their "Customer Service" is pretty good. At least when I got a hold of them about broken parts, they responded in about a week or so.
  5. You're going like gangbusters Ken. quite a feat, and milestone, getting all of the gun-ports done ahead of the decks.
  6. She looks awesome Bob, and it's a pleasure to behold.
  7. Nice work on the hooked-scarfs Ed! You're a true craftsman!
  8. A lot, if not most, guys here look for a link in your signature for a build log Mike. Until you mentioned it and added the link, I didn't know myself. Anyway, with the Niagara, the plans for the ship's boats should be 1 : 1 scale, so you can take measurements directly off the plans for the width of the planks. The thickness should be indicated there someplace as well. probably 1/32" thick. What you could do is go over the "Kit-Build Logs" and find a few guys there that have built them and ask them if you're not sure about a certain step.
  9. There's some major renovations going on for the next couple years or so. Thanks for posting the pics.
  10. The best way to get help and encouragement would be to post a build-log so all of us can take a look and chime in with answers Mike. Also there are topics found on the main page that may answer many questions you might have. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/forum/14-building-framing-planking-and-plating-a-ships-hull-and-deck/
  11. There's a section found on the main page, called "Masting - Rigging and Sails", that you should be able to find the answer you're looking for. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/forum/16-masting-rigging-and-sails/page-1?prune_day=100&sort_by=Z-A&sort_key=last_post&topicfilter=all
  12. I can see where rigging would tend to be frustrating Michael, but maybe after all of the "to do" of the Holidays is over, things will relax enough to "attack" it again with fresh eyes. I hope you and yours have a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
  13. Congrats on hitting this milestone Mark. I know you've been waiting patiently for the (hull-planking) finish-line.
  14. The stern looks great Vince. That's a scary amount of windows, and ornamentation there, and I think a lot of guys would have given up on her by now. Nice work~!!
  15. That piece is called a "quoin" Nenad. It is not generally rectangle in shape from the side view, but wedge-shaped at the side-view and rectangle-shaped from the top-view. It is used for elevating the gun up or down by sliding it in or out from front to back.
  16. Been saving those kinds of things myself. That and clear acrylic wrappers for windows.
  17. You've done an outstanding job rigging her Frank. Kudos!
