Hi Piet. Nice work on the carronades. The paint scheme is, of course, captains prerogative. It would be difficult to get the rail stanchions painted without getting paint on the rails at this point. Staining would be an option, maybe a couple different shades starting with the lighter shades first, provided they aren't already varnished. Those head-rails, I would stain as close as you can, to the cap-rails, stanchions, or planking, again, if they haven't already been varnished. It'll be tough sanding the varnish off. I'm sure whatever you decide will look great though.

Mike those cupped billets you have can be trued by you, and all you need is one flat board, temporarily glued to one side, getting it as close to parallel as you can. Then using your fence, shave off what you need to make the other side flat. Remove the guide board and repeat on the adjacent side.

The rigging's looking splendid Boyd, and a nice longboat kit you have there.

That little decoy would certainly make a worthy enough gift Dave. For sure it will leave him baffled.

Looking great with all her teeth Thomas. Nice work! -
It looks like it's not going to be without challenges Patrick, but will definitely be beautiful when you're done.

I'm doing something similar. My workshop is half in my bedroom and in my living room. That means in order to keep a handle on dust, I've had to designate any dusty work to the bedroom. Sawing, sanding, and drilling jobs. I throw a tarp over the bed, then after the dust settles in a couple hours, the clean-up operations begin. Electronics, TV, computer ect. are all in the living room, but glue-ups, staining, varnishing, and assembly can be done there. Kind of a hassle, but it works.

The shank diameter was what I was concerned with. The drill-chuck or the collet set has a max of 1/8" or 3.2 mm. But we'll have time to sort it out. Just the mill and vice will be for Dec.

She looks real nice all fitted out John. Been doing some browsing and I'm wondering if Proxxon makes a 4-jaw dividing attachment as well as the 3-jaw. Also, I can only find a set of 3 milling cutters that will fit the mill. The 1.0, 2.0, and the 3.0. Do they make larger bits for my machine? BTW, that other order will be placed Thursday.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
