  1. the end is in sight Jeff! outside shots do add an air of realism- unfortunately my Vicky is now to cumbersome and "sticky outy" for alfresco shots😆 Keith
  2. i do what popeye suggested and just use a small amount of thin superglue on my stantions- when dry you can lift the entire railing off to paint it- keep up the good work. Keith
  3. ty jeff and ohhhh yes- any Victory builders will vouch for the wish for 300mm long fingers 6mm thick!
  4. looks good jeff- knot on anchor looks fine to me and don't forget you are the admiral so what you see fit goes😁 Keith
  5. Ty for comments and views all- still recommend doing a small build to get the hang of model shipbuilding before doing Victory though matthew. Work continues on the tops'l yard with sheets and clewlines rigged. Next job will be the topyard lifts and the halliards on the final maintopmast backstay (leave backstays as late as possible to allow easier access) Take care all Keith
  6. shame but if your heart isn't in it mark it wont get finished- you can always go back to her (my cutty sark stayed 3/4 finished for 14 years)! Keith
  7. Ty jeff and kevin- hope she ends up looking as good as yours Kevin!- i did think about getting the caldercraft Victory but the price tag kind of scared me😮
  8. welcome to the victory club Emmet- best suggestion is to read the instructions 20 times then some more before you touch any wood🧐. building Victory will definitely take your brain to a new dimension- enjoy. Keith
  9. gotta love billings- however they do lend themselves to upgrading better than some other manufacturers and are generally true to shape regarding hull profile. always read instructions about a dozen times before touching anything- then read em again😵🧐 Keith
  10. Been a long long time since i touched poor Nina! planked the stern to finish first planking- sand to shape next then on to 2nd planking. take care all Keith
  11. slow but steady progress- the topyard parrell rigged and the topyard tyes (not belayed yet) take care all Keith
  12. Nice job there Jeff- i nearly bought this kit myself but opted for their (caldercrafts) HMB Endeavour instead which is still in my to do stash- hope it goes together as well as yours. Keith
  13. hello Matthew thanks for visiting- hope this build log helps, though i would recommend building something easier to get the feel of it first as it is a monster to work on🥴. Keith
  14. don't forget they put a coat of deal planking on top of the original hull strakes to combat ship worm along with crushed glass and white lead- they have most likely recreated that hence the run of the planking looking wrong.
  15. thanks as always to anyone who has commented, liked or popped in for a look around. just looking at the start date for the log and thought ouch where the six years go- woooooshhhhhhhhh!😵. got the main topyard in place today- slowly but surely getting there. still need to properly rig the tyes (just held in place by the blocks at the mo) take care all Keith
  16. attempt 2 looks a lot better -after coppering my cutty sark and victory i polished the copper and gave it a couple of coats of lacquer. Keith
  17. it is the same with the billings victory- i had to cut out framing below the upper gundeck and install a semi deck between two frames- but yes the boats will hide most of that area anyways.
  18. thanks for the comments and views everyone- got the main topyard painted and varnished and rigged the main yard lifts - soooo glad i didn't glue that rail infront of mainmast in place yet! also rigged the halliards to the main mast breast stays- not sure if i got it right with the mainyard lifts but billings just had them belayed to the pin rail! take care all and have fun. Keith
  19. i have re-masted a 1/98 mantua victory so can appreciate how tiny some of this stuff is😵- well done. Keith
  20. Thanks for comments likes and taking a look all. the main topyard is now finished and ready for paint and varnish- as with mainyard will leave stuns'l booms till later. also a shot of work so far also for Emmet a shot of my scratchbuilt model of the coal fired grab dredger Clearway- she remained with her coal fired steam engine until mothballed in 1993- was sold for scrap in 1998. need to finish the crane gantry so might be a build log in scratchbuilt ships in the future😉- also really need to sort out my mancave!!!!! take care all Keith
  21. Hi Emmet you will find a way that suits you- if you look in the completed build gallery you will see my cutty sark, mary ann, norden and fd10 yawl (all billings) Keith
  22. they should do emmet- i get as close to the tip of the cutters as possible push down on the wood around the head as the wood will dive a little then grip the head and pull 180 degrees in the opposite direction to original nailing if that makes sense- you will need to fill and sand back some afterwards- or you could get a punch and drive the nails deeper, but filling will still be needed. thanks for the positive comment mark (they do help😁) keep going as practice makes it easier- this is my first man'o'war kit as most of the models i have built have been 19th century schooners, clippers or steam ships (tugs, dredgers etc) as well as fishing boats. Keith
  23. looks good so far and no probs with pics as far as i can see🧐 take care keith
