Hi Ben, Welcome to Model Ship World. Your experience in building plastic models should help you when you start your Amati Fifie. It looks like it is a good model as I have read the review of this kit on MSW. You might want to check out the Hyde Street Pier Model Shipwrights. It is a club that meets at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. Here is a link to their website: https://hspms.org/ I look forward to following your build log once you get it up and running.

That would be very helpful. I have the Cheerful starter package and all of the sheets of wood. I just need to learn how to rip my own planks. I have enjoyed your build log as well as the other Cheerful builders. All of this information will help me when I start my Cheerful.

Welcome to Model Ship World Swede. You live in an area that has a lot of nautical history. I attend the annual Northeast Joint Clubs Conference in New London every April and visit Mystic Seaport annually. There is also the Connecticut Marine Model Society that meets near you. Many of their members are members of MSW. You have some nice models lined up to build. Please post some pictures of your Lady Nelson. We would love to see your work.

Nice start on your Beagle. Looks like an excellent kit for your first build. On YouTube there is a 131 part build of this model.

I am looking forward to following your build of the Speedy. I saw your Longboat pictures in the Gallery and was real impressed by your work. I agree with you that the Longboat is a real challenge for the first time builder. With the skills you have acquired, you should have no problems with building the Speedy.

Thanks for the pictures. Your hull looks great. The masting and rigging can be challenging, but it can be a very enjoyable part of the overall build.

Welcome to Model Ship World Robby. OcCre makes good kits and the Buccaneer should build into a nice model.

Welcome to Model Ship World ClapTrap. That is definitely an old decorative piece of art. It looks like a fun project to clean this up. Good luck on this and have a look at the many build logs on this site. There are many newly released kits designed for modelers getting into this hobby. Maybe we will see you with one. Just start a build log so that we may follow your progress.

Welcome to Model Ship world Gazzalene. I agree with Jeff about Vanguard Models having some good kits for beginners. You can go to their website and download their instructions. They are based in the UK and its owner and kit designer, Chris Watton, is here on MSW. Good luck on whatever direction you choose to get into ship modeling.

Hello from the not so sunny Spain.
Ryland Craze replied to Jandrus's topic in New member Introductions
Welcome to Model Ship World Jandrus. I am glad that you have a girlfriend that encouraged you to work with wood. You will have her support as well as the members on MSW when you start your OcCre kit of the Beagle. -
You are off to a good start Gerry. The Terror looks like it will build into a very nice model. If you click on the black topic tag "terror" located under the topic heading at the top of this page, it will pull up Terror build logs here on MSW that you can refer to during your build.

Beautiful model and the case accents the model. You have a nice and very detailed build log. I hope to see other builds of the Arrow as it is a very unique boat.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
