  1. Welcome to Model Ship World Paulo. Please post some pictures of your Cutty Sark. We would like to see your progress.
  2. I would definitely learn from a how-to tutorial on the use of a Byrnes or other make table saw. I have learned a lot from reading the above comments. And Olha is a very gifted and talented ship model builder. I enjoy seeing her amazing work and I am glad she is sharing it with us.
  3. Welcome to Model Ship World Richard. Sounds like you have the skill to build a nice model. I hope you start a build log on your BlueJacket Lobster Boat. I would like to follow your progress on this build.
  4. Be careful staining basswood. It will soak up the stain and could cause the overall finish to become blotchy. I thinned my stain with Minwax natural. I also used Minwax pre stain wood conditioner. There was a lot of discussion on staining basswood in the early Longboat build logs. It is a good idea to test the stain before you apply it to the hull. You are making good progress on your build.
  5. Congratulations Jean-Paul on finishing your first ship model. You did an excellent job on building this model and it turned out to be a model that you can be proud of. I enjoyed following your build log and will follow your other builds.
  6. Welcome to Model Ship World Swallowtail. It looks like you have done a good job on the deck planking. I am glad you found the problem with bulkhead 6. By adding material to this bulkhead, it will ensure a smooth run of the planks. Do not worry about building in spurts as a lot of us do this. The main thing is to enjoy the building process and build at whatever pace you want.
  7. Welcome to Model Ship World Chuck. I have moved your post to "New Member Introductions" and edited your topic. You have some nice models and I look forward to seeing your progress on your next model.
  8. Welcome to Model Ship World John. The Mayflower kit you have looks like a good introduction into wooden ship modeling. I hope you keep us informed on your progress.
  9. Welcome back to MSW Dave. We have grown a bit since you were here last, but I am sure you will meet up with some old friends and make new ones. We have some fantastic build logs in progress and completed that you can view. Our Gallery of completed models has also grown tremendously. I hope to see a build log when you get settled.
  10. I am enjoying your build log. That was a good tip on using a glue stick to hold your parts. Astrophotography must be an amazing hobby. You must have quite a setup to see deep into outer space.
  11. Welcome to Model Ship World. I have heard good things about the OcCre kits, especially their instructions and their YouTube videos. You have a good start in this hobby and your experience in building plastic models is a plus. You are located in a hot bed of ship modeling activity with ship model clubs located in New Jersey and neighboring states. The Ship Model Society of New Jersey is a large club and is currently meeting virtually using the Zoom app. Here is a link to their web site: http://www.shipmodelsocietyofnewjersey.org/
  12. Welcome to Model Ship World German. We are glad you found this forum. You have some nice ships to build and I hope you will start build logs on them. We have some fantastic builds of plastic ships on MSW and I enjoy following their build logs.

  14. Welcome to Model Ship World Pwog. You have picked a good kit for your first wooden ship model. The Ensign series of ship model kits from BlueJacket are good kits for first time builders. I hope you start a build log when you receive your kit.
