  1. Hi, Janet. I would probably do that if I built it again. It was my first wooden model so stayed with the kit for the most part.
  2. Very nice start, Antony & Karl. This looks like a nice kit! I am considering a cross section down the road - this one really looks like a nice one!
  3. Stay safe this summer, Jamie. Will look forward to seeing you in Maine at some point (in the process of moving to Eastport Maine - ETA August 1). Pemaquid Point is a beautiful area - you should enjoy it there! Went to graduate school at the Darling Center (UMaine)
  4. Looking forward to following this one, Jim (or is that Sjors Junior???)
  5. Hey, Jim. I had to really go back to figure out which pictures! The extremely complex one is (I think) a drawing of the shrouds etc on the HMS Victory. I am not sure where I found it, though. The simpler one is from http://www.blogstaugustinelighthouse.org/blog/Standing%20rigging%20labels_Lever%201819%20p25.jpg It is a drawing from the book The Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor; Or, A Key to the Leading of Rigging, and to Practical Seamanship by Darcy Lever. There are several versions available for download on line. You may also want to look into Rigging Period Ship Models by Lennarth Petersson. This one is all drawings and is very useful - with the caveat that it applies to a specific ship and time (this one is print only, about $30 on Amazon). Hope that helps!
  6. Welcome, Nenad! Your Cutty Sark is coming along nicely!
  7. Aye, what they said! Time for Sjors to host another party!!!
  8. Augie - that looks amazing! Them spiders do very quality work! Robbyn - SSSHHHHHHH!!!! "You Know Who" is gonna want to know when you will start working on your "You Know What"
  9. What - no Captain Picard???? Say it's not true!!!!!! As to the one you are building, it sure seems to represent the real McCoy (although the use of USS to identify a ship did not come into vogue until some time later). The First Enterprise was originally a British sloop named George, built at St. Johns (now Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu) in Quebec, Canada. In May 1775, a small American force under Colonel Benedict Arnold sailed up the Richelieu River on the recently captured Liberty. At 07:00 on 18 May, Arnold and 35 raiders captured the fort and shipyards at St. Johns, along with the newly-launched George, with no loss of life. The unlaunched schooner Royal Savage was also at the shipyard, and would be captured by the Americans later that year. Two hours later Arnold's raiders left with the newly captured sloop, which was later armed with 12 guns and renamed Enterprise. The second American ship to bear the name was a successful privateer before she was purchased for the Continental Navy in 1776. Commanded by Captain James Campbell, the schooner Enterprise operated principally in Chesapeake Bay. She convoyed transports, carried out reconnaissance, and guarded the shores against foraging raids by the British. Only meager records of her service have been found; they indicate that she was apparently returned to the Maryland Council of Safety in 1777. The third Enterprise, a schooner, was built by Henry Spencer at Baltimore, Md., in 1799, and placed under the command of Lieutenant John Shaw.
  10. Y'all are off to a good start, Bob! Looking forward to another one of your amazing creations!!!
  11. And they are very nice looking pictures at that! I really like the looks of this model, Sjors - you are doing very good work! It may not be a Ferrari or a Spitfire, but she sure does look good!!!!
  12. Jim, from Florida, with his mortar equipped Mississippi river Boat the Rob't E. Lee. Long story, convoluted plot line, goes all the way back to MSW 1.0 last fall for the cast of characters and the back story, if I recall the original version!
  13. I am glad you cleared that up, Sjors - I was about to ask about that innocence claim, Augie's Halo and now (as Andy put it) the "Mississippi Peacemaker" waking up. I guess the time for diplomacy is rapidly dwindling.... Andy - I think we need an intervention here! QUICK - someone throw Sjors a punch line!!!!
  14. Nice job on the planking and painting, Mobbsie. She is a beauty! I can certainly understand the distraction with those pesky old things flying around!!!!
  15. Boy, Danny, - you are getting tricky! Flipping the picture to confuse image search engines, changing the background...makes this game down right fun!
  16. That build is absolutely gorgeous, Caroline! VERY nice - looking forward to the next step in the rigging!
  17. Nice job on those doors - they look great! Hmmm...maybe leave one or two ajar and allow a peak inside... Nah, never mind. Too late now to furnish the interior!
  18. Sorry to hear about the accident, Mobbsie! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  19. Nice start, Adam. I'll be sitting here in the lurker section with Andy waiting for Mark or Sjors to bring the pop corn machine over.
  20. Andy - I think everyone else has already said it - WOW!!!! All those years working the Lakes are paying off! I can only imagine how you keep the lines on the 1:1 models you work on....
  21. Those are painted cotton cannon balls, right? I would hate to think that all of the detente that has been going on is now in jeopardy!!! Continues to look very crisp and impressive, Sjors - want to do the planking and furniture on my Ranger??????? Only one cannon so not much benefit to either fleet, though....
