Those Flyhawk kits are definitely not Tamiya equivalents! I built the Prince of Wales; it was worth the effort! Bill

HMS Pandora by Marvy

I have had the AOS book for years. It is a great reference Yes, I have considered making the quarter galleries, the transom, and the boats myself as well as the bow. Since you are scratch building her, I was simply wondering about the plans you are using. Bill -

The Bounty is a terrific first effort! Well done! But, I am impressed by your start to Pandora. I am currently building the old Constructo kit of her and have found that the bow is too pointed, not rounded. Therefore, I am trying to alter the design. You have mastered that design! I cannot wait to see more. By the way, what plans are you using? Bill -
It stands to reason that there existed both lateen and square sails in the Meditteranean Sea at the time. Indeed, I have seen dipictians of both Egyptian and Phoenician boats. Bill

My pleasure! I'll post it tomorrow or the day after. Bill -
Have you checked out the Wolfram zu Mondfeld Historic Ship Models? It is a thorough source of information about various subjects in ship modeling that I find quite helpful. One feature includes a chart of computations between mast and spar computations for correct sizing. It deserves your attention . . . Bill

Also, have you considered visiting www.bluejacket.com? You could very well find supplies you could use in this effort. A J Fisher also has a site. Bill -

I can forward to you a template for this railing. From that, it would be a simple job to copy and craft a new one. It could be a plan. Bill -
Marc, I might take the occasional sabbatical. but I am always following this build! Bill

Marc, As usual, you are doing spectacular work, but I am confused about one point. I was looking closely at the starboard quarter and transom in the photos above and I noticed that it appears that you left everything closed. I had always thought that the walkways should be open, but there has been ongoing discussion on this point. Tanneron shows them open, yet, other builders cite the Berain illustrations showing them closed. Granted, they are two different ships but it has introduced a level of controversy. Can you please elaborate? Thanks! Bill

Are any kit's guns accurate? One big problem I have with all kit guns I have seen is that they are not to scale and they do not accurately show the differences in any particular armament. For example, no ship of the line model kit shows that these ships usually had 32 pounders on the lowest gunde ck, 24 pounders on the next deck, and 9 pounders to 16 pounders on the highest decks. Yet, kit manufacturers supply us with only one size for all decks. In my humble opinion, they all need replacement to be more in scale. Bill

Obvious, I just found this beautiful build! You did a great job; I am most impressed! I saw that you asked a question on Page 2 about attaching yards to the masts but I never read anyone answering. You should look up "parrels", which differ slightly depending on the nation building the ship. Good luck on your next ship! Bill
