Sherry, You know I do not see these as distractions. You are simply juggling the order of tasks that need doing according to your current disposition and this changes on a regular basis. Mostly the order of things can be juggled a little here and a little there. The stand is nice and a great way to see the way it will present when finished. Michael

Popeye, Wow I just realized that I have not done any posts on this thread since the 13th of August, it seems like ages ago, I almost trip over the pilot cutter every time I walk to the bandsaw while I have been absorbed with Maria, I purchased the paint for the hull a while back. Sherry thanks for your kind remark, I think that you are also one who does very clean and precise work, judging from the pictures of your own build. Row, Thank you very much for coming out of the lurking door, your comments were a pick up for me this evening . I was feeling a little low for some reason, perhaps I need to take a break and work on the pilot cutter for a couple of days, give the big boat a rest. Row I am confident with tools for sure as to my skills at boat building it seems that I am not alone in doing things more than once. The school of hard knocks in any field is not the easiest path to travel but the satisfaction when one gets it right is worth the effort. I wish I had started building these models 30 years ago, by now I would definitely have a better idea of what I am doing. If it were not for this site I might not have got this far with my model, the many skilled builders who share their work and Ideas is inspirational and at the same time very encouraging, browsing the build logs is an education in itself, full of great ideas. I do hope that you start a build log and share with us some of your own knowledge of boats knowing that you have worked on the full sized ones, I am sure that you have a lot to contribute. I am indeed from the UK my sister lives in Devon. We grew up in London, Cornwall is my favourite county, I have very fond memories of St Ives, and Tintagel. Lastly regarding the radio control I am completely green when it comes to radio control other that knowing it can be done. I understand that Spectrum is a type that is good, it is also one of the reasons that the whole cabin area is not finished is because I need to sort out all that stuff. Michael

Mark, excellent work on the ebony bending. Retirement..... what's that? I thought that I would have a lot more time and now I seem to be busier than ever, the occasional afternoon nap though is sure nice. Michael

Nice work on the rigging and I really like the pliers mod I'm surprised that we don't see more of it being done. Michael

Good morning Druxey, in answer to your question absolutely, I am not quite set on the final configuration of some details yet and so I am waiting for the AHA moment when I know how I am going to detail them. Also the main cabin roof will need to be removable and watertight. When I take the mast off I will also finish off the shelf for the boom to rest on and remove the brass goosneck fitting. Michael

B.E. thanks for stopping by. It interesting working on each aspect separately as the need to operate the rigging and sails dictates what I have to make next. each task seems to require more research into how things are done. Last evening I was able to make the rail for the bottom of the mast the posts knees and rail are all from different colours of maple they are not glued yet. The posts are set through the deck and abut the beam in front of them. The belaying pin is a placeholder to see what they would look like the final ones will be from Lignum Vitae. Michael

Michael thanks for your kind comment, seems we posted at the same time. regarding your question about cutaways for myself it is not in the cards if I build a boat then it goes into the water, and unfortunately the water would just pour into a cutaway. Jay thanks, I need to get a move on or I will never get this puppy in the water. Actually I do want to get the hull painted soon but I want to finish off the main rigging hardware white the mast is in place , I can make the rest of the deck furniture and all that after I remove the mast. Since I am making it up as I go along, and not following an exact set of plans it is a bit of a learning curve. Michael

Hi Nils thanks for your kind remark. Hi Andy thanks for the comments I did have a look at the web images I am not sure I fully understand you comment though about sister blocks. Hi John good to see you back from holidays, I am going to make a saddle for the wire span, just haven't got there yet. I did make a twisted shackle yesterday it allows the block to stay in line with the one on the mast. I made a better one today after a lot of mucking about with form tools for the brass turning. About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
