  1. Here is a picture of my plans showing the bow. The hole marked 38 is showing the location of the incoming hole in the deck from the hawse hole(joined with a pipe), the other two holes are on the backside of the windlass(not shown) for the ropes to be fed into storage space below. Port side of plan is showing other details that hide the hole location in this overhead view. Your plan does not show these two extra holes but it may have just been an oversight. I have edited and added a second photo of my plans. The hawse hole(42.4) is located below the wale which is at deck level, in my case I moved the decoration over and drilled the hole above the wale. How the plan shows it is correct and would be correct in real life but in scale feeding the anchor rope from the outside then through the deck would be very difficult, I took the easy route. Just a thought.
  2. I am not saying this is the case for your schooner, but on my Trabaccolo the hawse hole is also situated below deck level according to the plans. I moved mine higher to be above deck level, however, after some research I found that the hole was located properly on the plans but drilled at an extreme angle to go though the deck then (in real life) lined with a lead pipe to help drain any water. Raising the position will be much easier and also save putting another hole in the deck
  3. Sweet looking model and case Mike, nice work.I will sit back now and watch for more of the Niagara
  4. Good to have you on board, enjoy yourself and hopefully you will be building soon
  5. Hey Doug, yep that's what I'm saying using the broken end as a punch, as for a clamp just use some double sided tape. The 1 mm bit is the size I use for making these holes
  6. That break sucks but as everyone has said an easy fix. For making slots try using an end mill bit in your dremel. They can be found on Amazon from .3 mm and up, usually come in packs of ten for around $10. I use these all the time and have had real good results with them. And when one breaks save the bit as they work good as little punches, for instance the nail holes in your chainplates.
  7. Hello Steve, she is looking good. You were looking for ideas and sounds like you are ready to "bash the kit" and you also said you want a luxury yacht....... Well my thoughts would be to (lots of work) remove wheel house scrap the deck house. Move wheel house back further in order to increase cabin area and to provide a nice deck on bow for sun tanning(and sipping cool ones). When rebuilding wheel house slightly lower it, increase angle of windshield and increase length of roof to cover more of the deck. Benches on either side inside of wheel house with a table in between them, captain's chair and access to cabin area. Build a false floor with access to bilge area (storage for more beer when cooler is full). At the stern build a nice padded bench that would house the motor and also provide another area to relax and sip cool ones. With the extended roof needing support install dancing pole to provide this. a bubble machine would also be cool. Finally a ladder to allow access to the roof for those who have had enough cool ones and feel the urge to dive off risking it all. Lots and lots of work but you asked.
  8. Hey Doug, I like your approach of treating this first layer of planking as it were the one and final layer. It looks good, however, there are two problems.............now that you have passed up on basswood you will find yourself with an abundance of kindling, second problem once that hull is sanded are you going to be able to cover up that beautiful swiss pear????? Nice work!
  9. Mike: the serving machine works good, I am enjoying it quite a bit Zoltan: outside shots are always better, but this year with all the wind and rain we are having so far it is hard to find a day to take her outside Eddie: Thanks, after seeing your last post in "what I received today" I may have to buy something else for those rainy days. I haven't played any sort of game in many many years, it's tempting to start again
  10. Looks real good Bob. I have never tried that drill and fill method for tree nails, yours look exceptionally good. What are you using for a filler?
