Good Morning All, I have a small update to show, the planking of the deck. Before you start wondering what I am doing not staggering the planks properly this is the first layer of planking. There is another layer of .5 mm planking going on top of the walnut planking you see here. Normally I would not have posted this until it was completed but I needed a break from the sanding and scraping, this layer (1,5 mm) needs to be sanded down by .5 mm so I thought I would post what was done so far. As she sits now I have about half the deck done and will hopefully have that done today. Then second planking then deck furniture.........Finally. Planks were glued using Weldbond on the edges and a spot of ca on each bulkhead to act as a clamp. Alright back to sanding and scraping . Oh some real good news for, those interested, Rick Shousha at Modellers Workshop is now a distributor for MarisStella. Check it out at http://modellers-workshop.com/category/maristella-wood-ship-kits/. Have A Good One

Power Tools for a Fully Framed Build
donrobinson replied to ChrisLBren's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
To answer your question, I have a Sherline, I bought one of their packages that comes with pretty much everything you need to get started(wood or metal). Since then I have bought their indexing set, tilting stand, rotating table, sensitive drilling attachment, right angle adjustment and a four jaw chuck(wish I would have bought the self centering one). I buy my micro bits on Amazon, which are very cheap for packages of ten and use my dremel sanding drums in the chuck. I will not get into the argument as to which is better than the other, I will say I use mine almost exclusively for wood. A mill, like most power tools , is not a MUST have item, however, I would certainly miss not having one. I am also very embarrassed to say some of these extras(and I won't say which) I have yet to use but I had to have them Hope this helps -

Hi Joe, all is looking good. That is the mistake I made with my AVS was to fair the bulkheads before installation, I needed to do a lot of shimming also but eventually it all worked out but it haunted me for a long time during the build Since then I have always faired the bulkheads after they have been installed and glued. Others may argue this but for me it works. Have fun

Looking real good Robin, you have a lot of real good ideas that should look fantastic. It is a very long list, though, and I could use a drink......so please include bottle in next post.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
