AntonyUK replied to Jaekon Lee's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
Hi. Welcome to MSW. Nice to have you aboard. The alert is quite a nice ship to model. Not a lot on the alert on the forum at the moment. But I'me sure you have already looked. More information on your build please. I.E. timbers you are planning to use. Fulley framed. Planking Curvel or Clinker. Looking forward to your build. Regards Antony. -

AntonyUK replied to michael101's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Hi I think I have got this right.. 4 is the thickness of your rudder. 15 is the length over all .pivot to end of strap 2.5 is the height of the brass. I.E. This is made from a strip of brass 2.5 mm Please correct me if I am wrong. Regards Antony. -
Let's talk 3D printers.
AntonyUK replied to Keith_W's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hi. Having read through this topic.. 3D printing in my humble opinion will not replace wooden modeling. There is nothing able to duplicate timber/wood. The smell, the dust, the feel and the cleaning up. On the same subject.. Haw many model ship builders are willing to spend the many many hours studying a CAD program and then producing the image to use in the 3D printer. I had a go with Solidworks. To deep for me at my age. A service that could have cannon's and various fitting that can be scaled to a custamer size would be very helpfull. Or files that could be used to produce fittings. That's enough of my ranting.. For today. Regards Antony. -

You have no choice I have done some drawings of the Alert using the anatomy in Illustrater format that can be exported to PDF .. Did you want me to post them here. Might be of some use to you. Have done the Deck, side view and a few small details. Regards Antony.

Hi Chuck. Making very good progress and the stern looks spot on. I have a few issues with the stern on my cutter. I vote for natural. Never liked paint on my models. Regards Antony.

Hi Mark. It will be nice to have a Druid cross section on the forum. Will follow this with interest. So much detail can be added to a cross section that is not visible with full length builds. Regards Antony.

Hi. They send my planks in 1 mtr lengths in a strong tube as Mike discribed. If you live in the UK it's always full length. If its a export they will cut it into half mtr lengths to cut postage costs ...Unless you pay the extra for large item shipping. That's the way I understand it. Regards Antony.

I have no idea on the contents. Regards Antony. -
Hello Cristiano. I have just read your build log through start to finish. You have a big undertaking that requires a lot of different skills.. And you have them all Your approach is very through and precise. You give the name "Kitbashing" a whole new meaning Will follow the rest of the build with great interest. Regards Antony.

Hi Richard. I would not recommend using the film on a curved hull. Very little stretch. You can spray on a film. Link below. http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2002/11/stuff_eng_tech_sea_water.htm I have NOT tested this but it should be fine. Regards Antony.

Hi Divarty. Thanks for your kind comments I must finish this soon as I now have two ships in dry dock. Just got to cast the rest of the cannons. And install all the bits onto the different decks. Make a stand and case and it's done.. Sounds easy in words doesn't it Starting after the half term break. Thanks for looking in. Antony.

Hi ChristIan Lookin very good. In your first post " . Next step was the keel. Goodwin shows for the pass between keel and lower apron a solution which I could not find on any original cutter drawings." This had me looking into why Goodwin drew it like this... A local shipwright informed me that it use is " a part of the bow/keel joint that was phrone to being damaged while in shallow waters. This area is easy replaced. Antony.

The Byrnes Saw "inside and around"
AntonyUK replied to nobotch's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hi Markus. Very intresing mods. I have done the splitter mode on my saw. For use on the TCT blade only. But I find this very useful when cutting very thin strips The Splitter should only be the same thickness as the blade Kerf.. But even this is not needed if you feed in the timber straight. I can see that this topic might be usefull to Jim. Regards Antony. -

Hi Chuck. That's a tidy workshop that's full of interesting bits ... Not Crap. I wish I has access to a large work area like yours. I bet more than 80% of the modellers here would like the space Regards Antony.
