  1. Once I finalize the bulwarks, I am going to paint all edges and problem areas and then seal my work in.
  2. Merry Christmas Chris! Your Spitfire is looking great! Your card builds are excellent! 2 quick questions for you. Firstly, what are you using for your edge colors? And do you seal small parts prior to cutting them out?
  3. Merry Christmas Everyone! Working aft to forward on the bulwarks: I discovered a mistake. I failed to stagger the pieces building up the cabinet at the stern, so the stern bulwarks will not be angled correctly. Oh well, chalk that up to learning, lol. The stern for Magenta will be built according to the original plans and have the raised grating platform instead of the cabinet.
  4. Eberhardt, Thank you very much for the advice. I got the steel wire from a hardware store a couple projects back. It’s what I typically make my eyebolts and other metal fittings from. I have a half pound spool of 26 gauge brass wire saved in my EBay cart. I’ll buy that to try soldering.
  5. Yes, after reflection, I am going to solder it up from some .020” anodized steel wire. I have never tried soldering steel wire, but I am pretty good at soldering electrical stuff. So, we will see how this goes. I need to learn how anyhow, because I have been enjoying the Solferino and developing the plans for the Magenta. There’s quite a lot of metalworking involved in anything built from the later half of the 19th century. And, the French Ministry Of Defense’s website has many more mid to late 19th century warships on it. We’ll see how this iteration goes, but…I may need to build more.
  6. Looking good! Self-adhesive contact paper with the wood grain like you use for cabinets works great!
  7. Welcome!
  8. In my card kit of the Solferino, the kit has you make some of the parts from thread. My current plan involves sewing pins, styrofoam, saran wrap and heavily thinned down glued. Is there a better way to do this?
  9. Keith, Thank you very much! Thank you all very much for all the likes! Making progress on the bulwarks! I need to pay attention to the scupper and framing locations for the Magenta!
  10. I’m paying very close attention to how the Solferino’s bulwarks are going together. I’ll be copying the cross section drawings, in scale, over to Magenta’s plans.
