Welcome back Piet, and thanks for the thumbs up. Seats are filling up quickly! Jungle drum is working fast

Always welcome OC. Popeye, there is some PE in the kit. I am not far off by saying that Greg will probably have a large stash of PE remaining from previous builds, I do have some, almost an extra Musashi set, and a bit extra for certain items like stanchions. You could consider getting a few rods to replace a.o. those lovely out of scale plastic masts. Greg will be weathering his, I'm not entirely certain if I will. Maybe I'll build it on the slip/in the dock.

Well that's the advantage of being the cook too ... although ... that does have it's downsides as well ...

Thanks Greg, still a ways to go ... the PE stash doesn't seem to shrink ... I keep on bending and sticking parts together ... this ship will sink just by the quantity of brass stuck to it!

How quickly time passes ... even if you're not having fun! Finally I got some time at the "bench". Had some restorative work on the hull, finished the decks, front and rear, as far as possible to be painted. Masked the decks, partly with tape, partly with an extra wooden deck I won't be using. Dragged the monster to my spray booth for priming. Hope to do some shading this week, but that depends on the boss, and the additional freelance work I got presently. Please, don't mind the very poor quality of the images. I'll try to get some better quality shots tomorrow if the weather cooperates ... Decks have not yet been glued down. First shading on the bit of super structure fixed to the deck, then the hull. Haven't decided yet if I'll get the colour (grey ... very colourful) on first before I mount the decks to the hull or after. The main problem will be putting on the wooden deck if everything is attached. So some minor headaches before I'll be ready with that ...

74-gun ship by Gaetan Bordeleau - 1:24

Hear, hear ... I do, however, have to agree with you on the cherry wood -
I do have to say the lighter shade of grey gives a better contrast for the grunge and weathering than the darker ones, at least in the pictures. You have again made another very realistic build. Well done! quite the fleet ... any room left for another two? What's the airplane in front of the dreadnaught ... made a nose dive off it's catapult?

King Arthur's Gwenivere You really showing off old-timer ... I can feel the pain ... remember it all to well. I wish you lots of strength, and a even more TLC when the job is done Cheers

You think the DDG should be smaller ...? Compare door sizes a.o. or the sizes from their respective data sheets ...
-
About half the size, as far as I can see. What about the fire power ... the "exact" opposite ...
-
Hmmm, starts to look like a "well used tub" ... You seem to improve with every part you add to your ships ...
-
Eric, Could the threaded rod have been pulled up an inch or so, that would explain some of the difference between the top of the wood and the nut, the remainder than could be a missing piece of wood which split and got lost.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
