Looks rather dark the horizontal plane ... I am really curious to the oilcanning, can you show the steps?

because you can, and you like the challenge. So get your $%^&*!@# hiney back at that table and fix it!!! You are doing so well, and sometimes you just need to take a step back, recuperate and pick up where you left off

But wouldn't you run the risk of making markings on the wood with the exacto blade, which you cannot see with Amalio's method ...
-
No, my father did, he spent a year in Italy, mostly in Firenze, so it is still on the "wanted" list

Than you have some nice wood waiting for you. I have actually no wood at all presently, and after my next plastic build I will have a go at a Ventian Gondola for which I have the drawings from Gilberto Penzo. I do not yet know what wood will be appropriate. Still lots of time before I start

... smoke room, they used to smoke their pipes as I recall from "Het fregatschip Johanna Maria" ... maybe ... the "wooden fregat shoe" would be an applicable ship type for your build -
Beautiful. Even if you have a limited choice of wood, the waltnut does look very nice. Interesting, the insert in the masthead

Dick, The rudder looks marvelous. I can't make chocolate from that picture (a Dutch expression when you do not know how to do something), so I presume you have a better image, or a far better eye than I have.

Yves, Normally one would take a metal or wooden rod (I've got an aluminum set for that) and roll those access plates on a cutting mat or press them in a matching form. I never use a hard surface, as it can (and most probably will) make your parts get a life off their own and go searching for the carpet monster. After shaping glue them on. I usually take a size smaller rod than de required size. You need to take into account that attaching them on, and then rolling the cigar may: damage the cigar itself have the plates jump all over your workspace/place if used with considerable CA won't bend the plates tool I use for it Those added details, do make them look a lot better ...

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
