it has fleurs de lys (with an additional central "spike") what do you mean by the "central spike", a fleur de lis has two leaves and a spike.

That's what's happening with most plastic kits. Details are becoming more important, and since we have the technology to do it ...

I have to remind myself that this ship is a mere 10cm long ... Increadible work on those masts and sails, Igor. I see you still have the giant match.

Sorry to hear about the off day. Something we all have to deal with every once in a while ... usually the best thing is to drop anything you are doing and get away. Since in plastic builds mainly water based paints are used we work a lot with acrylc varnishes too. So it is said ... not true. For instance, Tamiya isn't a real acrylic. Neither is their lacquer. Their rattle can lacquer sticks very well to any other acrylic paint as well, like Mig or Vallejo, maybe you should give theirs a try. Vallejo has rattle cans for clear, and flat as well. Don't use their bottles for airbrush, those are a disaster

I am not knowledgable on Einhell, but Proxxon has a good one but restricts you to size, and is near to what you want to spend. Another option is Hegner, but more expensive. However, the first question you should ask yourself, is "what will I use it for, and what's the largest piece I will cut with it". That will decide the type of machine, and (unfortunately) the price. If you buy only based on price, you might end up with a machine gathering dust, and I don't mean sawdust.

What are you blubbering about mistakes, so far you've solved a kit problem at the bow, stiffened the frames so it isn't a wobbly assembly, got the lot sanded to a smooth lined shape, and added your first plank. As Sam said, "are you done yet", or do we have to give you a bath! Before you start planking!

Odd. When I look at how smooth brass PE parts are for my builds, I would expect to not be able to glue them when you put it that way. Your davit regiment looks good though. I think it will by rather hard to rig the davits off ship, add the boat and get them on, or you should have a jig with which you can slide the entirety on it's place, and even then to glue that will be a pain. Do you really need to walk there ... I wish you and your wife lots of strength the coming weeks, take care

Frank, as we say: a monks job. You are doing well My two cents on your production ... To assure a fixed distance between the rings, you should either fixate your third and fourth hand, probably screw them on a plank or take a piece of wood of the appropriate distance and put it between the legs of the two hands. To make a flexible joint, you could loop several turns through the rings, and after that loop the thread arund those loops, tie at one end, and CA to the ring, so the CA doesn't harden the entire link

Now we know the man behind the ship. A lovely ship it is too

Jan, You came up with an interesting dilemma First question is the state of readiness of the build ...

Dental insurances cover barely anything, you are forced to pay stunning amounts to find out coverage is nill, at least here in the Netherlands. Most physician's cost are covered though. Why don't insurance companies do not understand that eating healthy is a basis for healthy living, quick recovery from injuries/illnesses, and less doctor's cost, hence less insurance cost ...

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
