  1. As a comparison to the work boats depicted above, the photo below is of the preserved "snagger" 'Industry' on the Murray Rive in South Australia. The photo was taken at Renmark some ten years ago. 'Industry' was built in 1910 and, like virtually all traditional Murray River boats, is a side wheeler. John
  2. An interesting little hip - and an interesting building method. John
  3. Greg, You probably couldn't have chosen a more historically significant major steel warship than this!! Are there enough reliably dated photographs to properly nail down detail of the 'as built' configuration? John
  4. Thank you for taking the trouble to post this very interesting tutorial on shackle making! John
  5. As we would say over here - just like a bought one! John
  6. Danny the pump master! ! and the rest of it's looking pretty crash hot as well, mate. John
  7. A little jewel, Greg - congratulations on a beautiful piece of work. John
  8. John, If all else fails, just try Googling 'reeving threefold purchase' - it should come up in the search. John
  9. John, in rigging a threefold purchase it is common to lead the hauling part of the rope through the centre sheave first in order to even out the stress on the block shell. This video on YouTube may be of help:- htpps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXibVitpnRo John
  10. Seems an odd arrangement to me, too; what ship is she, Terry, the 1891 magnetic survey brigantine? John
  11. Never had to fit rope parrels, Pat, but it strikes me that if you have several turns around the yards you might be able to fake it. Thread the parrel, take a turn under the yard and secure; thread the reaminder. take a turn around the yard and secure; hide the faking with extra turns over the top. Is that a possibility? John
  12. Great to see an update, Neal - she really looks the part. John
  13. Have to agree that you've put in some first class work there, Greg - especially considering the scale. John
  14. Looking very nice, Bob. You say there was a Master and two mates plus a Commanding Officer. Was this in the same manner as the old sailing master in the sailing Royal Navy? John
  15. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful build with us, Druxey. John
