  1. hello Russ........and thank you as well! I've got some other bits I wanna throw in there.......gonna call for some mass production. I'll be happy to sit down with it again {what am I saying, I usually stand }........I hope to get the mast cemented finally into place, as well as the boom winch, and get some more rigging on her thanks again for look'in in and the good word! I still want to show how to make convincing buoys........I showed it earlier with the Nordkap and the Cux........but the info was lost in the big crash. it would be cool to put it back out there for everyone to try buoys go good with rope coils ......like cookies and milk!
  2. hello Lawrence.......thanks for the good word I bought the pulleys from Billing USA........they would do well for sheave pulleys, especially the 4 mm. they are small enough....don't remember if they came any smaller. unfortunately, I haven't had much time to go further with the trawler. I hope to have an update soon. thanks again for look'in in.......I know you've been pretty busy yourself. your Bounty looks sweet!
  3. sorry to hear that Mark.......I hope it won't set you back too badly. she's looking really good
  4. this must be the static model........I have the instructions for both of the Billing's offerings. I did a scratch build, modifying a hull that I had cloned from the Billing's Boulogne Etaples kit. I used the instructions to build it...turned out to be a real neat build the boat used in the movie 'the Perfect Storm', is actually called the 'Lady Grace'.......even the 'Hannah Borden' is not the actual vessel. one of these future builds, I'd like to attempt the actual ship, but so far, I only have a couple of photos. Billing does put out a nice kit......I'm sure you will enjoy it. I'm a big Billing's fan
  5. now that's a coincidence........I have the Guillow's Fokker Dr 1! these past couple of weeks, it's been a little hectic around here, so I've been doing small sub projects. the Guillow's kit offers some plastic machine guns and I'm not happy with the way they are coming out, so I'm making a pair out of wood. it's going to be a static model anyway......no way I'd test my mettle by trying to fly it. I built a spitfire MK 1.......my first one in many years. I also dabble still with plastic......cars and planes mostly. so there's nothing wrong with being multi-faceted, in my view. it keeps the mind open to new things. some techniques can easily be applied to other mediums. Again, I think you did a super job with this build.....congratz on a wonderful model
  6. she looks great Jerry.........you overcame your problems and she was built none the less! my hat's off to you my friend.......congratz on a wonderful build!
  7. very interesting log Jond...simply amazing! beautiful boats as well great metal work too!
  8. all the initial prep work paid off...........the second planking came out super! you must have only had to do minor sanding.....very smooth looking
  9. good to see your over the hump......as they say got your paint squared away, hull looks great......and you've done some decal work. smil'in big time over here..........onward and upward now!
  10. just thought I'd pop in and update everyone where I am with this build. this is such an easy build......I should have no reason why it would give me any headaches. I've been so intent on the trawler though, that this poor little build has been left marooned on my other table. I've got the sail cloth set up to draw out the sails...but so far I haven't even done that....and the admiral is beginning to ask why it's been hang'in around in the spare bedroom I looked ahead to see how Midwest shows to make the mast hoops..........dreadful! I will do something different in order to make them, along with a few other small details. I read that they instruct painting the sails with clear enamel or lacquer to stiffen it up............no, I think diluted white glue would be a bit better. we'll see where I go, to further this build along. thanks for the kind word and for look'in in
  11. I think the same as Mark.......with larger models, you can get away with pronounced tree nailing. not only that.......did they use a single or double tree nail? .....too much to think about with smaller builds, although it CAN be pulled off. you do have that one plank though, where the butt is out in the middle of nowhere. I see why.........and there is no reason to change it now. should you do it, remove the short one before it and do one complete length......the better of a bigger evil personally, I wouldn't do it.........when the deck is laid out, it can be easily hidden by a rope coil or deck fitting. it's a learning curve my friend........I check the widths on all planking I use for a deck. this way you can be sure to use the same width for the entire length {row} and use the narrower ones for the outer rows {margin etc}. there are tutorials that can give you ideas concerning the Butt stagger, and how to plan out your deck. don't get me wrong.....I screw up like the next guy. I like the color....you have some great wood grain there, and your tree nailing is fine. glad to see you pulled it off
  12. nice looking ship's wheel your making it goes hand in hand with the other fine work you've done on this vessel.
  13. not to worry........I wouldn't think of putting any of mine to sea either it is cool to see how it would look though I do like the contours though......you got this hull into shape very early in the build
  14. stern looks great Rob........did you find it in a craft store? that's where I get a lot of my stuff
  15. Holidays have a way of magnifying loss.......but fond memories will heal the heart. my condolences for your recent and past loss. the ships boats look great Tom........super addition to the completed model
  16. superb model to add to your collection......you've done a great job! rigging looks fine......sail movement will dictate how taught the lines are to be it's a good blend of the basic kit, your addons and bash, and your talent. you aced it
  17. I thought it was the remake of the movie 'Anaconda'! neat to see her in the water........only needs slight ballast in the stern I gotta tell ya though......that hull has a very nice shape to her.....especially how the decks are all put together. super job!!
