  1. I remember the Loveland Pass white knuckle drive. There's lots of them out here. There's one I've taken from Sacramento to Tahoe like that also.
  2. We, in the PNW, hope you enjoy your gift. I've not done the Big Sur area since I was in CA in the late '60's, but it's is a bit freaky when you stop and look and realize the ocean is under you.
  3. No I don't. It was maybe 30 years ago when I lived in Missouri. If I comes back to me, I'll let you know.
  4. If you're frugal (or like me, cheap), strop the blades frequently when using them. Doesn't matter which brand as I have both SM blades and Exacto type.s.
  5. You can buy rope walks. There's been a lot of good reviews on the one from SyrenShipModels. (Chuck's company).
  6. There are chemical blackening products out there. Do a search on blacken copper an another for brass and you'll get more than enough info.
  7. That's probably a lifetime or two maybe three project. Incredible. Some years ago, there was TV show here in the States that did the Battle of Gettysburg using miniatures. Took them a year to film it.
  8. I've often wondered if leaving the carbon fiber had more to do with bragging rights than anything else. It does look good though.
  9. This just boggles my mind... so tiny and yet so much detail. When you're done you could probably qualify for neurosurgery.
  10. Tank looks great, Patrick. A lot of detail for something so tiny. I thought one of the axioms of wooden ship models is "there will be blood"...???? Then again, I've DNA on full size cars, models of all sorts, even in the kitchen. At this point, I might be a quart low.
  11. For tree nails, many use bamboo chopsticks that are split down and then put through a drawplate. Do a search on "tree nails" and another on "trunnels".
  12. Well done, Patrick. That's not cheating... it's finding a creative solution.
  13. Looking fantastic and lights really add something special. BTW, you make me nervous with pictures like #5 with the wheel over the edge slightly. I'd hate to here it fell to the floor.
  14. Sad to hear this, OC. I'll be hoping for the best for him and for you.
  15. Welcome to MSW, Marty. If you'll go to the top of this area, you'll find this: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/13703-for-beginners-a-cautionary-tale/ along with several other pinned posts to help you on your way. Also, each section has pinned posts. For example, in the Kit Builds area, there post on how to set up a log, etc. I hope this helps.
  16. Nice, Gary. Well thought out and everything is out of the way.
  17. Hi Charlie, A quick search using the search feature gives some results. Looks like there's couple of build logs here on MSW. https://modelshipworld.com/search/?q=Black Prince&quick=1&type=forums_topic&search_in=titles
  18. Me thinks I need a road trip. I don't recall ever seeing models there, so that'll be my excuse. Now a little bit better weather and a certain virus to leave the room.
  19. Check some of the Clippers... especially those by rwiederrich. I've not seen too many who did put the boom sails but vaguely recall seeing a Victory with booms and sails.
  20. The SMS Trinkstein is an absolute great log. I highly recommend it for anyone who's not seen it.
  21. I guess the horses are slowing down in their old age, not to mention the riders.
