  1. He's one of the developers if not the developer, at Bluejacket.....
  2. Your location would help, Pam, as different countries have different possibilities such as museums and sellers who market built models.
  3. Frank, I'd start using what you already have and then add what you find you need. Basic rule of thumb is buy only what you need when you need it and don't buy "cheap". Usually, buying "cheap" means you end up spending more as the old ones get replaced. And Dziadeczek is right also. One can make a lot of rigging tools one fly such as what he shows.
  4. I'll add to what Keith mentioned. Boats were often left uncovered also for "maintenance" which was basically dumping a bucket or two of water in them to keep the wood from drying out and shrinking which leads to leaking. Sometime they got covered back up. Captain's choice in this.
  5. Wow, if I hadn't seen the log I would not believe it was card. Supurb work, Chris. I do like your "new" laws. Very fitting and profound.
  6. This seems to be a rather "time limited" project depending on how far back they wish to go. There might be plenty of tales out there even back to the 1700's or so which would need some serious digging into archives and histories. Or are they just looking for "modern" tales?

  8. Oliver? You mean Orville, I hope. Good looking model the Flyer. I have a memory of seeing a full size one at the Air Force Museum as a kid that didn't have any coverings. I wonder if it's still there?
  9. Sweet work on the rigging. E-zee line and the model scale would drive me nut also. With do-overs, I just tell myself the first time was "practice", take a deep sigh, and go outside and kick something.
  10. Welcome back home, Mic. I hope it's smooth going from here on.
  11. I find this fascinating. It seems the lion was a very common figurehead for French frigates during the Napoleon era and some (but not all) ships of the line. I'm not sure why unless it was some standard but I've not seen any reason. I do note that the French did use other figureheads on the frigates than the lion but it just seems to more common than other types.
  12. Looking good. May I suggest you open a log in the appropriate area? It's a better place for many reasons as this one is for discussions/question, etc. The log will get your build indexed such that others can find it.
  13. Most builders don't know the difference. They just want to build a ship that looks nice on a shelf.
  14. Nicely done on the boat, Bob. Distractions seem to be the bane of modelers.
  15. This topic/forum area is perfect for that discussion.
  16. Thanks Bob. I'm doing what I can to stay indoors. I thought the Alemeda fire we had a few ago was bad and it was but while there's none near me, it's just been very heavy smoke. We had some nice off and on rain the last two days and today, minimal smoke but the crews and water bombers are still working hard down along the border. It's so nice I've spent next to no time in the shiop today and probably won't tomorrow.
  17. Thanks for the likes and comments. It was a fun build. OC, she's in a safe place. I have on top of one my display cases out of harms way.
  18. Thanks for likes and comments. Very slow going still but getting there. I've re-looked at the carvings that have completed.... I hate macro shots as they much better just using the eyeball.
  19. Happy belated birthday, Denis. Good news on your health and on the build.
  20. I've been through tornadoes and I'd rather take my chances with one of those then a hurricane. And now they're saying there's a storm to the east of Florida which could be just as bad. Just stay save, everyone.
  21. Is the link missing or am I missing something?
  22. Aye, it indeed is and I have been. Shop has been cleaned up, Belle Poule plans hung and work has started. I did remove about 10 strakes on each side as I wasn't happy with them and have been putting them back on. With the smoke from the fires and other things going on in life right now it's rough to get any shop time.
  23. You're right. The ballast and some barrels below it and barrels and some cordage such as the hawses, etc.on the orlop. I had to go check as the while the orlop on some was at the very bottom of the hold, others it was above it but considered the lowest deck.
