Hi Alex. It's good that you're ok. But to refer to MSW policy: No politics. No religion. No inflammatory topics.

I decided I needed a break from half-frames. So for a few days I've been doing some prosthetic work on my Admiral's fake leg. So far, I haven't screwed it up even though I'm hitting it with a heat gun, dremel and cut off wheel, and tolulene. As time permits, I cleaned up the salvaged keelson along with the salvaged fore and main mast steps. The keelson is now glued into position after tweaking the fit and the mast steps are fitted but not glued. There's markings inside for re-fitting them into position and also marked up the exterior for drilling and fitting the pedestals. As soon as I can figure out a way to drill them square in all dimensions (not a square hole but exactly perpendicular) I'll do it. This beast is too big for the drill press or the mill... <sigh> Also, minimal fairing at this point on the inside of the hull. Anyway... picture. And as always, errors, omissions, and stupid mistakes, while not always intentional are subject to be commented upon by those who read this.

Great looking grass, even if all of our admirals would insist it needs mowing. Looks even better with the Ogallala sitting in it.

Rich, I answered in your other post about this, but I think it's the de facto standard. We definitely don't want those babies moving around.

Ah.. yes.. we've heard of them. For information, see here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/181-banned-kit-manufacturers-on-msw/ They're not Japanese but Chinese pirated models and their models are not permitted in our build logs. MSW does NOT condone piracy in any form.

HMS Druid by Krug - FINISHED - 1:48 - Hahn
mtaylor replied to kruginmi's topic in - Build logs for subjects built 1751 - 1800
Beautifully done, Mark. Your Druid came out very well, inspite of the battle damage. Splice the main brace and an a round of rum for the yard workers. . -
Great looking steps. I'll assume the top ones aren't ebony even though they look like it.

You might have a look at Chuck's longboat, etc. kit builds. The friezes are printed on paper, then cut out and glued on. At your scale, I think this might work very well.- 4,152 replies

Good that you're having fun again on this build. I'm impressed that liquid glass worked out on the installed windows.

The "first CUT is the deepest"
mtaylor replied to AndrewNaylor's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Do you have a set of calipers? Electronic or otherwise? I use one for that. Or... take a piece of scrap and mark the blade height a known reference point (dead center if possible). -
Help with a Byrne's Saw - end of cut problem
mtaylor replied to rtropp's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I like that setup. Did you tap the fence or is there nut/washer inside the fence? You got me thinking of something like that for my MicroMark saw. -
I'm thinking it would be a very worthwhile way to pre-rig and 3-masted man-of-war....

I can honestly say that I understand how tough that decision is to make. It seems be a correct and proper decision based upon what you showed and said. The resulting rework is wonderful and you are obviously pleased. I'm thinking it looks fantastic.

Super nice work on the riverboat, Danny. I quite agree about AL's "quality" but you managed to overcome it.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
