  1. Excellent news that the new little one is doing fine. Bracera looks great but it will wait.
  2. So here we all sit in anticipation... silently chanting "copper! copper! Go Sjors, Go!!!"
  3. As I found out and posted above.. the English is in work. I can let you know when it's done as I'll be keeping close eye on this. Thanks for the input. The USA has a similar tradition with Officers and enlisted in the military but not exactly the same. The English had some things separate but not all on their ships. It's wonderful to learn the differences and how they influenced design.
  4. I hated to see all that de-construction so I can't hit "like" but I want to in order to acknowledge your courage. If you're not happy with it, no amount of praise from us will change that. You're doing what you feel is right. Have a good summer holiday and see you when you get back.
  5. ANCRE. Apparently, they thought they had an English translation already and it was in stock. I guess it was in progress when Mr. Berti, the elder, died.. I'm guessing that's what happened because I know that translations don't happen overnight.
  6. The comedy of errors continues... after I asked about the English version and was told it was in stock and to return what I had, I got an email this morning. Ooops... translation not finished but it will be ready in about 3 months so hang onto the book. Which, of course, being the eager-beaver I am, I shipped out yesterday.. <sigh> Oh well.. it'll be that long before I'm ready for it. Keith, pull that book off the shelf and dream. Check the web for builds. It's a very nice build and looks great with lots of room for detailing. B.E. I've noticed that too. They also had separate fireplaces for cooking as well as separate rations between the officers and enlisted or conscripted. I'm looking forward to the paneling and deck in the Great Cabin, though with some trepidation about my abilities, but we'll see. If only they had the time to properly train their crews in seamanship and gunnery, the world might be different. Being blockaded in port was big factor in their battle losses.
  7. Those are great looking blocks... and, holy cow!!!, they have sheaves. Correction.. fantastic blocks.
  8. Here's an article that might help: http://modelshipworldforum.com/resources/Framing_and_Planking/Deck_PlankingIIbuttshifts.pdf
  9. The curved decking is typical French decking from what I've seen. And the Great Cabins had non-normal (by English standards) decking and planking. Decks were either lozenge or herringbone from what I can tell. As for Belle-Poule... like the other monographs, it comes with drawings and a book with history and drawing explanations. I have the La Venus and the Bonhomme Richard. All have been soft covers. They asked me to return the whole thing though I thought "why not just return the book?". But that's ok.... I was on the English page for monographs and when I clicked to order there wasn't a drop down for languages (I rechecked La Venus and Bonhomme Richard and the drop down is there). I should have caught that before I ordered to make sure I was getting the English version. Oh well... I'm long ways from needing the monograph at this point.
  10. Thanks Augie. A bucket sea water will work though. I just glad I wasn't keelhauled as the barnacles need cleaning off the hull.
  11. And here I am following along this part and thought you'd found a way for a magnetic mine that would be drawn to wood. Sniffers... I like that.
  12. Pete, Wasn't that the one with the micro-grooves in the hull below the waterline? I remember the controversy. Sweet paint job.
  13. Alexander, Lovely work. I'm quite amazed at your carvings and Jano's carvings.
  14. Lovely work, Danny. You seem to be flying right along on the bow details.
  15. Minor issue.... the Belle-Poule Monograph came in Saturday. It was in French <sigh>. I thought I was ordering English but alas, not. So back it goes for replacement. I'm only using the plans for period details and rigging per Mr. Delacroix's suggestion but the book should make for some interesting reading. Anyway, I saw enough of the plans to re-instill some missing enthusiasm (detail parts only... ) and also some things to instill some fear (deck planking that follows the hull and not the centerline and a "lozenge" pattern deck in the Great Cabin). Back to framing....
  16. Augie, I'm going way off topic here and will go turn myself in for a flogging... Have a look here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/science/special_projects_bureau/ Look for articles on the Vulture2. It is/will be a rocket powered 3-D printed plane that will be launched from a balloon at the edge of space... or close to it anyway. Vulture1 was a Paper Airplane Launched Into Space... via balloon. Got into the Guiness Book.
  17. Also for other small table saws...
  18. Stateside.... hmm.... a few that I've dealt with, but it will depend on what model you're looking for as no one carries every maker. You can Google the addy's of the ones I've listed: Model Expo Tower Hobbies Blue Jacket Ages of Sail Billing Boats I also have noticed that MicroMark is carrying kits. I'll pop a link on this one since they have a mixed bag of kits: http://www.micromark.com/ship-and-boat-model-kits.html and the kits spot took some digging.
  19. Wonderful looking launcher with lots of very impressive bits of micro-plumbing.
  20. Good on you for the break. It's often needed when frustration sets in.
  21. Ok...no math, no typing...just planking. You'll be in fine shape.
  22. Excellent problem solving. Invectives do assist as I've found out. I think when you're finished planking, you'll find it was worth the effort. Nice going.
  23. Ah... got it. I forgot what section I was in... a senior moment. Title fixed. When you're ready... rock and roll sir.
  24. Chuck, I don't see where you've missed the spaces. Hit the "edit" button at the bottom of the post and see if it lets you fix it. BTW, When you start this, put it in the kit section.
  25. Kevin, Questions back at you... how much "post Trafalgar"? I don't think a warship of the period would have went anywhere without it's guns. Ok.... maybe if it were converted to something else. Would setting them on the deck in "stowed" position save you some rigging and time?
