  1. Ben, great chock. Just getting right is a work of art.
  2. I'd like to add a couple of things to already excellent advice.... Go here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-plans-and-research.php and read the articles on "Model Ship Kits - What to Expect" and "Kit Selection". Both have a lot of useful information. The other thing is, which ship or type of ship? As has been pointed out, kits vary within the manufacturer's line. Also kits of the same ship vary, Victory varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Knowing what you're looking for will allow others to comment on the "best".
  3. Great looking badges, Sam. I love the colors, too. At this rate, you'll be ready for the darkside.... oh, you already are.
  4. Nice work on the head, Klaus. You just do it the way it works for you.
  5. I like it even if I don't get to go to work anymore. Wait a second Sjors. Which part do I know... the days or that you have a secret power? :)
  6. Sam, I knew that. it's just my way of saying "stay safe" also. There is a time to celebrate and I choose to leave the workshop when I do and would hope others do that as well. Don't feel bad, ok? Hell, every machine I own has bit me so far but one... and it keeps trying.
  7. I have dealt with Ages of Sail. I would recommend them. We had an issue and they resolved it very satisfactorily. Above and beyond the call of duty, IMO.
  8. Sam, I just never acquired the taste for Scotch. So.. its' beer (Irish Red), wine (a nice Cabernet), or a smooooooooooooooooth sipping whiskey. But given that I'm usually sitting surrounded by power tools, I don't touch anything stronger than coffee until I know that I'm not headed back into the shipyard.
  9. Sam, I suspect it like this: Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.... or maybe Sjors has a secret power we don't know about?
  10. Amazing work as always, Doris. You set a very high standard by your work that I and others hope to attain. In my case, I don't know if I ever will....
  11. What? You don't get the question of "I'll bet you could make a lot of money selling those."????
  12. You are off to a good start, Jose. I'll be following along also.
  13. Thanks for the "like" and comments. I've had my "what the hell did I get myself into" moments but your comments tell me I'm on the right track. So... should I make the pictures smaller to hide the defects? :D Yes, I do remember you and your build. I'm hoping you'll do a build log. Good to hear from you again.
  14. To briefly corroborate what Kester said.. here's that picture and I've highlighted the stunsail yard.
  15. Paul, As test, you might try some matte lacquer instead of starch also.
  16. Thanks for the comments and the likes. David, The hull will be planked in swiss pear with ebony wales. I'm having a toss up situation on the stern area.. maybe plum? Pat & Piet, Minor milepost... according to my list.. Framing (major) - full frames (minor) - aft frames (minor) - forward frames (minor). I have about 5 pages of notes on the list so I don't forget anything. Bryan, This is fun. It has it's frustration moments to be sure, but when those get solved, it's even more fun. And then there's those moments... when I sit back with a cup of fresh coffee and realize "holy crap... I did that!".
  17. Impressive re-engineering. I've heard of do-over's but this is almost extreme... like a re-design.
  18. Beautiful work, Alexandru. Is that holly for the deck?
  19. Minor milepost... aft half-frames are installed. I need to trim a bit and then rough fair them before moving to fore half-frames.
  20. The next meeting of the Re-Doer's Club will be next Thursday at Sjors's house. Ok.. seriously... you did the right thing. If you're not happy with it, it will bug you forever.
  21. Hey Mike.... open a build log. I'm sure most of us would like to follow along.
  22. Another method is here: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/152-le-superbe-by-blue-ensign-heller-plastic-built-as-le-praetorian-after-boudriot/
