Thanks for the responses. I think I've got it sorted out: 1) Squirt a pile of glue on wax paper... (this part is now added) go have a cup of coffee and a smoke. 2) Spread the glue as thin as I can on one blank. 3) Put together and squish them. 4) Clamp between two 1/4" thick pieces of glass with clamps. 5) Go fiddle with something else for a couple of hours. I was using an old bottle of glue until it ran out and when I started the new bottle is when the problem occurred. Step 1) second part... wait is what I added and seems to be working.

Hank, The new masting does indeed look better. I believe you're going to end up with a true one-of-a-kind and very well done model. And really... a movie projection booth??? Who would have thought?

It was a pity to paint over the interior... but, I understand why you did it. Well done, sir.

Very cool and very sharp, Augie. Don't work too hard outside and do take some time to scare the trout.

I tried the "hammer method"... no joy. This pic shows the built up frame blanks. This one shows what I'm getting: The one on the left is what I got from the hammer method. The one on the right is from last night and slowly coming back. I'll try putting the glue on with my finger and spreading and smoothing with a bit of water this next time. Seems I'm getting about a 50% good yield on these frames. I was putting the glue straight from the bottle on the wood and then spreading it.

Richard, I use the bags they came wrapped in. You could also use various sizes of trash bags. Or, get the Admiral (or someone) to make some nice ones...maybe velvet in the color to match the room. Admiral's like that stuff.

I'm making frame blanks for a Hahn method build using 3/32" thick cherry that's 1" wide. I edge glue the pieces for both layers and then after that dries, spread a thin layer of wood glue on one blank, put them together and press between two sheets of glass to keep everything straight. What I'm seeing is sometimes the wood warps and the bond isn't made at the edges. Is there a cure for this? Am I doing something wrong? Just hits me as very strange.

Looks good Jason. You are moving along quickly. Did you try soaking and applying heat to bend the planks? AL's wood isn't the best but it will bend with water and heat.

Beautiful work, Garward. Will these be entered in a contest? They should be as they are that good.

Or, you can use fabric glue. Both seem to work.

what is the ideal modelling table?
mtaylor replied to AON's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Rich, There is a topic for this: http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/3869-so-where-do-you-do-yours-then-model-making-that-is/ -
Hi Ulises, You're doing a great job on her. I think you hit it dead center on why there's not more builds of her... cost and let's add size.

I'm looking for ring pins. Ideally, the Billing Boat's ones: http://www.billingboatsusa.com/149-bf0285-eyebolt-6mm.html However, after hitting about 15 webshops and no one has them in stock... I'm considering these: http://www.agesofsail.com/ecommerce/fittings/eye-4005-04-brass-ring-bolt-4mm-10.html They are photo etch and I'm wondering how they look installed. Has anyone used them? If those don't work, I guess I'll order these: http://www.castyouranchorhobby.com/item--Ringbolt%20-%203mm--ms0430 Or check my supply of eyebolts and split rings. Worst case... make some.
