  1. Wes, I suggest opening a build log. You'll find it's a fast way to get help and encouragement and also it's a way to help other modelers who follow.
  2. I like the carriages and how you made them... not liking the "ouch" part. The problem is the trunnion is too far back. Can you drill new trunnion holes and fill the old one?
  3. I like that molding. It looks great. Ignore the Princess as she's to young to understand.
  4. SawdustDave, will you be doing a build log? I hope...
  5. Sweet work on placing the compass. It looks perfect there.
  6. May????? Did I sleep through April?
  7. Hi Bob, I seriously suggest you open a build log. Not only will it be a great way to get help, you'll leave a legacy for anyone else who builds this.
  8. Actually, I need to thank you for reminding me of this site. It's well worth checking back for updates. Inspirational work there.
  9. Go up one link..http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/index.html There's a ton of very wonderful models on this site.
  10. But then you'll want to do the Billy Ruffian along side her at the Nile. <ducks><runs for cover>
  11. Nenad, Can you get a flat lacquer where you are? Or a matte finish spray.... maybe from a craft store? That might give you the finish you are seeking. As for life's philosophy, I think you've got it" Chill out, man, be cool, be cool be cool. You'll make it all, with or without anxiety, and better without. Be aware that somewhere around the corner waiting in ambush hearth attack or brain stroke, and you smoke so much ... It's just hard to change, isn't it? I'm still trying to change some things. Building ships is a good bit of that philosophy. No stress, no anxiety, just thought, problem-solving, and art. The spice must flow, but so must the creative part of us. You are doing impressive work, my friend.
  12. Leaving the stern post off (usually only on kits) lets the builder get the stern planking lined up and sanded without damaging the stern post. It's a builder's choice, really.
  13. Dave, You forgot to mention planting the trees from seed. And mining your own ore and smelting your metal.
  14. Good question... I saw it in the theater when it came out and repeated endlessly on PBS here in the States.
  15. Try a hobby shop that sells aircraft...
  16. kannon, Define "purist". Around here, you're the captain of your ship; build it the way you want it.
  17. Sounds reasonable to me, but I've not built this vessel. The key is that the planking line doesn't change.
  18. Nothing like exercising the guns to bring the whole crew out to the main deck. Beautiful work as always. Your crew is very lifelike.
  19. Congratulations Mobbsie. You have a achieved modeler's nirvana. If don't get a sash, maybe a medal???? Very well done, Sir Mobbsie.
  20. Mike, After soaking, and while bending, apply heat. Some of us use electric plankbenders, some steam, some others use a curling iron. With heat, there's very little springback. If steaming, you'll need to clamp the piece into position so it doesn't spring back. If you don't want to use heat, try clamping the piece in the bent position while allowing it to dry. There will be some spring back but two soak, bend, and try cycles seem to work.
  21. HI Mike, I moved your log to the proper place. By your request for access, I'm assuming you're wanting to build the full builid not the cross-section?
